According to The Week, Miss England 2024 Milla Magee caused a stir when she withdrew from the Miss World 2025 pageant taking place in Hyderabad, Telangana, India. She became the first British contestant to withdraw in the 74-year history of this beauty pageant.

Milla, 24, a lifeguard and model from Cornwall, had hoped to promote CPR awareness when she entered Miss World 2025. However, she suddenly left the competition, telling The Sun that she felt exploited.

According to her, the contestants were required to wear evening gowns and makeup constantly, even to breakfast, and were required to entertain wealthy male sponsors at parties. Milla described two contestants as having to serve six people at a time, which she found to be an entertainment that made her feel uncomfortable.

Contrary to Milla's account, the Miss World organizing committee, led by President Julia Morley, denied the allegations. They said Milla left due to family issues. The contestant's mother was having health problems and arrangements were made for her to return to the UK immediately. Julia Morley confirmed that Milla's claims about her experience in India were false. The organizers also released a video of Milla, in which Mila expressed her gratitude to the contest organizers.

After Milla withdrew, Charlotte Grant, the first runner-up of Miss England 2024, was chosen to replace her as the British representative. The 72nd Miss World 2025 pageant will continue with activities such as talent competitions and charity presentations. The final night will take place on May 31.
