According to WUSA , American Airlines Flight 357 departed from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA), en route to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on the morning of August 23 when a crew member saw smoke coming from "passenger equipment" and reported a fire.
At that time, the plane had to divert to Washington Dulles International Airport and landed safely at 11:52 a.m. on August 23 with 160 passengers and 6 crew members.

Rescue teams were on hand when the plane landed. A photo posted online showed firefighters checking equipment on board.

There were no reports of injuries or arrests in the incident. The Washington Dulles Airport Authority told Fox News that flight operations were not affected.

"We appreciate the professionalism of the crew and thank the team for their efforts to get passengers to safety," an American Airlines spokesperson said.
The US Federal Aviation Administration has opened an investigation into the incident.
