Bao Loc orchids "sold out" during Tet

According to statistics from the Bao Loc Orchid Association, currently, the entire city has about 200 households growing orchids, mainly hybridized wild orchids, including many rare and precious orchids, with a total area of about 50 hectares. Of which, there are dozens of orchid growing models invested in developing in the direction of high-tech, smart agriculture.

Among hundreds of orchid varieties, there are more than 100 orchid varieties being invested in production and business by gardeners to supply domestic and export markets.

On the occasion of Tet this year, Mr. Vu Duc Nghi, owner of Huong Nghi orchid garden (Loc Thanh commune) sold nearly 6,000 pots of various types of orchids.

On the occasion of New Year and Lunar New Year this year, it is estimated that orchid growers in Bao Loc City sold more than 200,000 pots (pots) of wild orchids of all kinds. Bao Loc orchids are exported to all provinces and cities in the country. In particular, key markets include Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Da Nang and the Western provinces.

According to statistics, currently, the whole city of Bao Loc has about 200 households growing orchids, with an area of about 50 hectares.

According to orchid garden owners, this year's Tet, the demand for wild orchids has increased, especially in the Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City markets. As early as November, purchasing agents have been collecting goods to sell for Tet.

Bao Loc orchid varieties blooming during Tet include Golden 99, White 5-petal Pink-throated Dendrobium, American Lightning Dendrobium, Mutated White Narcissus and Loc Bac White Narcissus... The price of orchids this year ranges from 170,000 VND to 10 million VND/pot depending on size and variety.

According to the Bao Loc Orchid Association's estimate, on the occasion of the Lunar New Year, gardeners sold about 200,000 pots of various types of orchids.

Orchids are carefully packaged by garden owners for transportation to outlets in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and domestic markets for sale during Tet.

Similar to Mr. Nghi, most orchid gardens in Bao Loc City are in a state of "out of stock", with no more flowers to supply the local market during the Lunar New Year At Ty.

According to Ms. Dinh Thi Thanh Lan - Owner of Minh An orchid garden (Loc Son ward), her family is growing more than 1 sao of orchids, of which spring orchid varieties that bloom during Tet account for about 30%. In addition to selling directly to traders at prices ranging from 150,000 to 500,000 VND/pot, Ms. Lan has reserved more than 500 pots to sell during Tet at Bao Loc Spring Flower Market. However, in recent days, when hearing that her orchid garden still has products, many people have come to buy them.

Ms. Dinh Thi Thanh Lan - Owner of Minh An orchid garden (Loc Son ward), is one of the rare garden owners who saved nearly 200 orchid pots to sell during Tet at Bao Loc Spring Flower Market.

“Customers come to the garden to buy, so I have to sell to them. Now there are only about 200 pots left, but I rented a space so I brought them out to display and sell to create a Tet atmosphere. I have grown orchids for many years, but I have never seen orchids attract customers like today. Perhaps because Bao Loc orchids are beautiful and have reasonable prices, consumers are choosing them to play Tet more and more,” Ms. Lan added.

Up to this point, basically, for orchid growers, there has been a successful Tet flower season. Currently, orchid growers are focusing on taking care of their works to select entries for the 2nd National Open Bao Loc City Orchid Competition in 2025, which will take place on February 14, 15 and 16 at Dong Nai Thuong Lake (Bao Loc Lake). It is expected that there will be about 1,000 orchid works from gardeners and artisans in the locality and provinces and cities across the country participating.
