According to historical documents, the ancient Hoa Thuong Hoi Quan was located in Phu My hamlet, adjacent to Dong Pho of Thanh Hoa town (the town was established in the 3rd year of Gia Long - 1804). The Hoa Thuong Hoi Quan is now house number 248, Tran Phu street, Ba Dinh ward, Thanh Hoa city, with an area of over 400 m2 .
This is a building built by the Chinese community in the early 19th century as a place for cultural activities and business. The building is made of ironwood, bricks, tiles, and green stone, including the following items: the gate, the front hall, the welcoming tower, the middle hall, and the back palace.
After a long time without repair or restoration, the building has seriously degraded and is becoming a ruin.
The Hoa Thuong Hoi Quan relic is forgotten despite being located in the heart of Thanh Hoa City.
The flower guild hall is covered and obscured by many naturally growing trees right in the relic.
In 1960, the Chinese handed over the Hoa Thuong Hoi Quan to Thanh Hoa province, and this building was used as a library for about 20 years. In 1981, when the Thanh Hoa provincial library moved, the Hoa Thuong Hoi Quan was handed over to Thanh Hoa Publishing House for management and partial use.
When the Hoa Thuong Hoi Quan was zoned for protection, it included the following items: the front hall, the middle hall, and the back hall. However, at present, not a single item or component of this relic remains intact. The entire relic has been damaged, many wooden structures are rotten and collapsed.
At the end of October 2010, the Hoa Thuong Hoi Quan was recognized by the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee as a provincial relic and was zoned for protection. At that time, Thanh Hoa Publishing House continued to use part of the area as its headquarters.
By August 2023, Thanh Hoa Publishing House moved away, so now the Hoa Thuong Hoi Quan lies dormant in the heart of the city and is being "corroded" by time, to the point where the relic's shape cannot be recognized.
Although it was forcibly reinforced with a steel frame, the site has seriously deteriorated.
The brick walls are being reinforced by the government and the cultural sector using steel and steel mesh to prevent them from collapsing onto surrounding houses.
The facade of the Chinese merchant guild on Tran Phu street is used by some households as a place for business and trading.
At the end of 2022, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa sent a document requesting the Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa province to agree on a plan to preserve, restore and renovate the Hoa Thuong Hoi Quan relic using the provincial budget and other legally mobilized sources. However, up to now, this relic is still a "ruin", rotting every day, and no competent authority has taken any action to restore it.
