Will the accounting profession be replaced by AI in the future?
AI has been replacing many traditional accounting tasks, delivering superior efficiency. Tasks such as data entry, invoice processing, financial reporting, and primary auditing can now be performed by software like QuickBooks, Xero, or Zoho Books.
However, AI cannot completely replace the accounting profession. Many experts emphasize that humans still play a core role in tasks requiring strategic thinking and professional ethics.
According to Vietnamnet, Helen Brand, Global CEO of ACCA, said that AI is an opportunity for accountants to focus on creating strategic value instead of repetitive tasks.
Similarly, Professor Alan Parkinson asserts that robots cannot steal jobs from accountants, but they do require accountants to adapt to the technology.
Areas where AI is difficult to replace include: Financial advisory and strategic planning, Legal oversight and compliance, Accounting estimation, etc.
Overall, while AI cannot completely replace them, in reality, accountants who only perform simple tasks like data entry and payroll preparation may lose their jobs. According to Dan Tri newspaper, recent graduates will face significant competition as job opportunities in these positions decrease.
Therefore, young people and accountants need to proactively adapt and improve their technological and professional skills to take advantage of the opportunities that AI brings.
