Students are supported by the State with at least 50% of the health insurance premium.

In the 2025 school year, the health insurance premium for students will not change compared to the 2024 school year. However, from July 1, 2025, according to new regulations, this group of subjects will receive an increase in the minimum support level from the state budget to 50% of the premium (30% in 2024), so the total amount that students actually pay for health insurance in the 2025-2026 school year will decrease compared to before.

Accordingly, Decree 188/2025/ND-CP stipulates that from July 1, 2025, the State budget will support at least 50% of the health insurance premium for many groups of subjects, including students.

Students are supported by the State to pay health insurance.

According to current regulations, the health insurance contribution rate is equal to 4.5% of the basic salary. The current basic salary according to Decree 73/2024/ND-CP is 2,340,000 VND/month. Therefore, the health insurance contribution rate is equivalent to 105,300 VND.

Previously, students were supported by the State with 30% of their health insurance premiums, so they had to pay 70% of their health insurance premiums each month, equivalent to VND73,710/month. Since July 1, students have been supported by the State with 50% of their social insurance premiums, so they only need to pay a maximum of VND52,650/month, a reduction of more than VND21,000/month compared to before.

Students can choose to pay health insurance periodically in 3 ways: 3 months, 6 months, 12 months. The amount of health insurance for students (after deducting the support from the State budget) is specifically as follows: If students pay every 3 months, the amount is 157,950 VND, if they pay every 6 months, the amount is 315,900 VND, if they pay every 9 months, the amount is 473,850 VND and if they pay every 12 months, the amount is: 631,800 VND.

Students participating in health insurance have the right to register for initial medical examination and treatment at one of the health insurance medical examination and treatment facilities at the commune level or equivalent according to regulations, and can choose and change the place of registration for initial medical examination and treatment at the beginning of each quarter.

Students and parents can check the expiration date of their health insurance card in the following ways:
