With this result, the Vietnamese delegation ranked second, tied with Japan and behind Russia, moving up three places compared to last year.

This performance assessment helps Vietnam maintain its leading position in Southeast Asia, despite this year's exam being "new and challenging". The results also show that Vietnamese students have a talent and thinking ability in computer science that are among the best in the region.

The 20th Asia-Pacific Informatics Olympiad took place from May 9th to 10th in Taiwan (China). Over 1,000 contestants from 37 delegations participated, with 16 gold medalists, 47 silver medalists, and 93 bronze medalists selected.

To compete internationally, 16 Vietnamese contestants went through the selection process of the Ministry of Education and Training, after ranking in the top 40-50 highest scores in the national excellent student competition.

However, according to APIO regulations, each team can only select the 6 highest-scoring contestants to participate in the competition. From there, the Ministry further selected 4 students to join the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) team.
