Learn from and follow Uncle Ho's example with the heart of a physician.

Báo Quảng NinhBáo Quảng Ninh16/05/2023

Over the years, the Quang Ninh Health sector has been focusing on promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's moral example, creating a transformation in improving medical ethics and leading the sector to increasingly sustainable development. This contributes to building the image of a physician as Uncle Ho taught: "A good doctor must be like a loving mother."

The team of doctors from the Diagnostic Imaging Department (Provincial General Hospital) performed radiofrequency ablation (RFA) on a patient to remove a liver tumor.

To effectively implement President Ho Chi Minh's teachings and improve public health care, the health sector has implemented the "Improving Medical Ethics" project and the "Innovating the Style and Attitude of Healthcare Workers Towards Patient Satisfaction" plan. Through this, the sector has strengthened the dissemination of information, education, and training on the content of the emulation movement to improve medical ethics and codes of conduct, linked with promoting the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style for all cadres and employees in the sector. Numerous seminars have been organized, emulation movements launched, and emulation agreements signed between departments, wards, and individuals regarding the implementation of good medical ethics, codes of conduct, and improved professional quality to be worthy of the people's trust and affection…

According to Mr. Nguyen Minh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Health, the implementation of emulation movements, especially the study of President Ho Chi Minh's teachings, has gone into depth. Through this, not only has medical ethics been strengthened, but the professional skills and expertise of medical staff have also been continuously improved. The movement of self-study, self-research, and self-training has been voluntarily and diligently pursued by doctors to improve themselves and build their own reputation based on their medical ethics and skills. As a result, many modern techniques have been successfully applied, such as: cardiovascular surgery and intervention, multimodal cancer treatment, in-vitro fertilization (IVF), automated immunoassay, 1.5 tesla magnetic resonance imaging, 512-slice computed tomography, continuous renal replacement therapy for newborns, etc.

One of the successes since the implementation of this learning movement is the decreasing number of patients referred to higher-level hospitals and the number of severe cases requiring transfer to higher-level hospitals. Many seriously ill patients have been saved thanks to the dedicated and attentive care of the medical team in the province. In 2022, the rate of patients from district-level hospitals referred to provincial-level hospitals was 3.17%; and the rate of patients from provincial-level hospitals referred to central-level hospitals was only 0.85%.

Doctors at Tien Yen District Medical Center performed emergency surgery on a critically injured patient with multiple traumas resulting from a traffic accident.

Recently, doctors at the Tien Yen District Health Center successfully saved a 26-year-old male patient suffering from multiple blunt abdominal trauma, a severed mesenteric artery, and critical hemorrhagic shock due to a traffic accident. Immediately, the hospital's internal emergency alert system was activated; doctors and medical staff from the Surgery, Anesthesia and Resuscitation, and Hematology departments performed emergency surgery to treat the injuries. During the surgery, the patient lost a significant amount of blood (4,000 ml of fresh blood mixed with blood clots), requiring a blood transfusion. However, the available blood type A was insufficient, and transporting blood from another location would take a long time. In this urgent situation, the Tien Yen District Health Center's blood bank was mobilized; doctors Nguyen Trung Kien and nurses Nguyen Thi Thanh and Nguyen Thi Lanh donated blood to save the patient. After more than an hour of intense surgery and resuscitation, the patient was out of danger and is now gradually recovering.

Patient Tran Cong B. (81 years old, Cam Pha City) whose liver cancer recurred was treated with a new method: radiofrequency ablation (RFA) at the Provincial General Hospital. According to patient B., "Seven years ago, I was diagnosed and treated for liver cancer using radiofrequency ablation at the Provincial General Hospital. After that, my health stabilized and I lived a normal life. This time, with the recurrence, my family and I have great confidence in the doctors, so we continued treatment at the hospital."

It can be seen that each medical unit in the province has many different approaches related to its assigned professional tasks, but ultimately they all aim to live and work in the spirit of "A good doctor must be like a loving mother" as President Ho Chi Minh called for.

In the coming period, the health sector will continue to maintain and promote the study and emulation of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, ethics, and style, with good projects, tasks, and models in learning from and following his example. This will contribute to combating the decline in political ideology, ethics, and lifestyle among doctors and medical staff throughout the sector. This is also the foundation and driving force for the health sector to develop a fair, efficient, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare system, meeting the health care needs of the people in the new situation.
