Hoi An and Luang Prabang (Laos) cooperate in tourism and culture

On October 17, in Vientiane Capital (Laos), a Memorandum of Understanding was signed to establish friendly cooperation relations between the two cities of Hoi An ( Quang Nam province, Vietnam) and Luang Prabang (Luang Prabang province, Laos).

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Tran Thanh Man - Politburo member, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Mr. Saysomphone Phomvihane - Politburo member, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR; along with delegates from the two countries.

The signing ceremony of cooperation between the two cities of Hoi An and Luang Prabang was witnessed by the Chairmen of the National Assembly of Vietnam and Laos.

According to the signed content, the two cities agreed to cooperate, support and help each other in areas of strength, share experiences in management, restoration, conservation and promotion of heritage values; share measures and methods to ensure the exploitation of heritage values to serve tourism in a sustainable and effective manner and bring long-term benefits to the people; organize short-term training courses and experience exchanges for officials working in cultural management and heritage management of each side.

In particular, the two localities will cooperate strongly in the field of tourism, organizing tours connecting the two world cultural heritages; sharing experiences in tourism promotion, advertising and management activities of each side; and coordinating the organization of cultural events, tourism promotion in each locality or jointly organizing domestic and foreign tourism promotion to promote the image and value of the World Cultural Heritage - Hoi An Ancient Town and the World Cultural Heritage - Luang Prabang Ancient Capital to connect and attract more and more tourists to each locality.

Through this cooperation, it will contribute to further tightening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples of Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam.

Previously, in September 2024, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Nguyen Duc Hai met with Vice Chairman of the National Assembly of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Sommad Pholsena during his visit to Hoi An. With similarities in culture and architecture, both cities have ancient urban areas recognized by UNESCO as World Cultural Heritage, and are also one of the top tourist destinations in the world. Therefore, the two leaders proposed establishing a cooperative relationship between Hoi An city, Vietnam and Luang Prabang city, Laos.

Through this cooperation, it will contribute to further tightening the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between the two Parties, two States and peoples of Vietnam - Laos, Laos - Vietnam.

It is known that in recent times, Hoi An City has built friendly cooperative relations with domestic localities and many foreign cities such as Japan, Korea, Germany, Hungary, Australia, China, etc. and now officially established friendly relations with Luang Prabang City, Laos.

Expanding connections with cities around the world increasingly affirms Hoi An's role in international cooperation and exchange; at the same time, it is an opportunity for the city to take advantage of external resources to supplement and strengthen its inherent potential to gradually develop Hoi An further in the future.
