These days, Dong Van commune, Binh Lieu district, is actively preparing for the organization of the Wind Abstinence Festival in 2025, while exploiting new products and effectively promoting traditional tourism products to attract tourists in the summer of 2025.
Mr. Tang Van Dao - Vice Chairman of Dong Van Commune People's Committee shared: "The Wind Abstinence Festival is an annual activity, therefore, from the beginning of the year, we have included the organization of the Festival in the annual work plan. Up to now, we have directed the villages and hamlets to mobilize the people in the village to prepare and practice the performances and traditional sports to participate in the festival taking place on the 4th day of the 4th lunar month. This year's festival is more special because the festival is organized by the District People's Committee, and at the same time received the title of recognizing the Wind Abstinence Custom of the Dao people in the list of national intangible cultural heritage, inviting delegates from neighboring countries (China) to participate in cultural, artistic and sports exchanges...".
The Wind Abstinence Festival is a long-standing traditional festival, demonstrating the unique cultural beliefs of the Dao people, held annually in Binh Lieu. As a Dao ethnic person, Duong Cam Henh, Khe Tien village, Dong Van commune, shared: “I am eagerly waiting for the festival. Therefore, when the commune announced that the villages would participate in cultural, artistic and sports exchanges, I and the villagers are actively practicing traditional arts and sports to be able to participate in the festival activities.”
Within the framework of the Wind Abstinence Festival in 2025, many unique cultural, sports and tourism activities will take place such as: Opening ceremony and announcement of National Cultural Heritage; Art festival between villages and hamlets; Competition of ethnic sports: stick pushing, tug of war, throwing cones, spinning tops...; Exchange of spinning tops between Dong Van and Hoanh Mo communes (Vietnam) and Dong Trung town (China); Display and introduction of handicrafts, OCOP products, traditional cuisine; Experience community tourism in homestays, local cuisine, trekking through the forest in Dong Van, explore agricultural tourism at Binh Lieu Farmstay (Hoanh Mo commune)...
This event not only contributes to preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, but also aims to promote the image of Binh Lieu as an attractive border destination, especially for Chinese tourists. At the same time, this is also a practical activity to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and China and the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
With the policy of "turning heritage into assets", in recent years, the Party Committee, government and people of Binh Lieu district have been making efforts to preserve and turn traditional cultural values into typical tourism products, contributing to promoting local socio-economic development.
Mr. Vi Ngoc Nhat - Head of the District's Department of Culture and Information said: "In recent years, Binh Lieu district has been very active in promoting cultural identity to develop tourism. The district has 96% ethnic minorities, of which the three main ethnic groups are Tay, Dao, and San Chi. Currently, we are orienting based on those three ethnic groups to build ethnic minority cultural villages in the area. We are organizing festivals associated with cultural development in the area such as: Soong Co Festival, Luc Na Communal House Festival, and Dao people's Wind Abstinence Festival. The district also strengthens friendly exchange activities with China on culture and tourism development; it is expected that there will be cooperation and tourism development programs in the near future".
By the end of the first quarter of 2025, Binh Lieu had welcomed over 37,000 visitors, reaching 7.5% of the annual plan. To achieve the goal of welcoming 500,000 visitors in 2025, the Wind Abstinence Festival is being actively prepared to create an important highlight to attract domestic and foreign tourists to Binh Lieu district during the holidays.
