ASEAN Meeting in Da Nang 2025

As part of the ASEAN Meeting in Da Nang 2025 event, organized by the Da Nang City Department of Foreign Affairs in coordination with the ASEAN Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic and consular offices of ASEAN countries in Vietnam, the ASEAN Meeting in Da Nang: Opportunities to Enhance Cooperation between Da Nang and ASEAN Partners took place on the afternoon of April 9th. The meeting was attended by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet; Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia Dato' Sri Amran Mohamed Zin; Ambassadors, Consuls-General, and Heads of Foreign Representative Offices. Representing Da Nang City were the Vice Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee Le Trung Chinh; and the Standing Vice Chairman of the People's Committee Ho Ky Minh.

Speaking at the conference, Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh stated that, on a bilateral level, Da Nang has established friendly cooperative relations with 50 localities worldwide , including 9 localities in ASEAN member countries. Da Nang is aiming to build a free trade zone, a regional financial center, and other strategic areas. In this context, promoting connections with localities in ASEAN is not only a step consistent with the city's strategic direction but also contributes to deepening Da Nang's role in the process of regional and international integration.

In addition, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, Le Trung Chinh, also expressed his deepest condolences to the people and countries of Myanmar and Thailand for the heavy losses caused by the recent earthquake, and expressed his sorrow and condolences to the people of Laos and the family of former President Khamtay Siphandone. He also expressed his belief that, with the solidarity and commitment of ASEAN, the people of Myanmar, Thailand, and Laos will soon overcome this difficult period.

At the conference, the Da Nang City People's Committee and the City Tourism Association presented aid to the Myanmar Embassy in Vietnam to help mitigate earthquake damage.

Speaking at the Conference, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Do Hung Viet also stated that the Conference is taking place at a very significant time. 2025 marks many important events, including the 50th anniversary of the end of the war in Vietnam and the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to ASEAN. In just 50 years of peace and 30 years of international integration, Vietnam has made significant strides, with Da Nang as a driving force and key hub for the region and the entire country.

The conference featured two lively discussion sessions on the topics of: Strengthening international cooperation, trade, and investment between Da Nang and its partners; and ASEAN-Da Nang tourism promotion cooperation. These sessions explored international cooperation programs and trade cooperation initiatives being implemented by ASEAN countries in Vietnam, investment trends from ASEAN countries in Da Nang, opportunities for investment cooperation and development of the Da Nang Free Trade Zone and the Da Nang Financial Center; and trends and solutions to promote tourism cooperation to connect Da Nang with destinations in the region .
