Last weekend, more than 100 Vietnamese students from schools and universities across the UK attended Leader Camp 2024 at the University of Westminster in London with the desire to exchange, learn and explore their potential leadership abilities.
According to a VNA reporter in London, as the largest annual event of the Vietnamese Students' Association in the UK (SVUK), Leader Camp aims to help the Vietnamese student community connect, exchange and develop their own abilities, while developing a network of qualified young Vietnamese human resources.
According to the event organizers, the theme "Growth Begins, Breakthrough Within" of this year's Leader Camp revolves around the idea that leadership is a process that originates from within each person.
Cultivating leadership is like growing a tree, requiring care, patience, and constant effort. While the roots represent the foundation of knowledge, the trunk represents the key skills and core values. The branches represent the various leadership roles, and the leaves and fruits represent the results of a consistent process of self-improvement.
With this theme, Leader Camp 2024 includes discussions on 3 main topics: "Root Foundation," "Nurturing Influence - Expanding Potential" and "Expanding - Innovating" with 4 guest speakers, who are Vietnamese alumni working at large companies in the UK and are founders of career guidance projects for Vietnamese international students in the UK.
The speakers shared diverse personal stories, perspectives, experiences, and practical advice on their journey to discover their own abilities to achieve success.
Another highlight of the event was the debate themed “Breakthrough Battle,” in which participants were divided into eight groups to compete in idea presentation, debate, and personal defense, with the first-place winning group receiving a prize from the Jury.
The event also included games that helped players demonstrate intelligence, dynamism, flexibility, agility and teamwork - essential qualities of a leader.
Attending the event, Ms. To Minh Thu, Minister Counselor, Deputy Ambassador of Vietnam to the UK, highly appreciated the contributions of SVUK in the activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-UK diplomatic relations organized by the Vietnamese Embassy in the UK last year. She said that Leader Camp is a meaningful event, spreading positive messages to the Vietnamese student community in the UK.
Ms. To Minh Thu expressed her hope that, with the theme "Nurturing, Breaking Through" of this year's Leader Camp, the young generation of Vietnam studying and researching in the UK in the future will "become a lush green forest, bringing sweet fruits back to build the homeland and country."
SVUK President Nguyen Tue Minh said he was very enthusiastic about the theme of Leader Camp 2024, which emphasizes the importance of nurturing the qualities and values of a leader from within each person, which is a solid foundation to help each individual reach their ambitions and become a future leader.
Tue Minh believes that with this meaningful theme, Leader Camp 2024 will have great influence because it helps students look into their inner strength, evaluate their strengths and weaknesses to best promote the hidden talents in each individual.
Tue Minh said this year's event is also different from previous years as it includes a debate, creating an opportunity for players to use the knowledge and experience gained from the speakers in the discussion to demonstrate their thinking and debating skills.
Nguyen Quoc Anh, a student majoring in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science at the University of Northampton, did not mind the long journey to attend Leader Camp because the event was a great opportunity for a first-year student like Quoc Anh to interact and make friends with the student community in the UK, while also discovering his leadership ability - an important quality in study and life.
SVUK is an organization representing more than 14,000 Vietnamese students living and working in the UK, connecting 46 Vietnamese Student Associations (Vietsoc) from universities and colleges across the UK.
Since 2014, SVUK has been officially recognized as a member of the Vietnam Student Association. In 2018, SVUK received a Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Foreign Affairs for its contributions to student activities.
In addition to Leader Camp, SVUK organizes many activities to strengthen connections, build and develop the international student community in the UK, including the SVUK Cup, Talent Show, and Career Fair./.
