Nguyen Thuy Linh - Vietnam's number one badminton player had an impressive performance when defeating Scottish opponent Kirsty Gilmour 21-17, 23-21 in the second round of the women's singles at the 2025 Badminton World Championship held in Paris.

This is a sweet victory that helps Thuy Linh successfully take revenge, because not long ago, she fell to Gilmour in the round of 16 of the 2024 Indonesia Open.

In the first set, when trailing 12-13, Thuy Linh exploded with a series of five consecutive points to rise to 17-13 and then ended the set with a score of 21-17.

In the second set, the match became more tense when Linh had a chance to close the match at 20-19 but missed, allowing her opponent to turn the score to 21-20. However, her bravery helped the 28-year-old player score three decisive points in a row, winning 23-21 and closing the match after only two sets. In total, she won 44/82 points, achieving an efficiency of 54%.

This is the second time in her career that Linh has reached the third round of the Badminton World Championship, after the first time in 2018 in Nanjing, China.

In the round of 16, Thuy Linh will face a huge challenge: fourth seed Chen Yufei - former world number one and winner of the 2020 Tokyo Olympic gold medal.

This year's World Badminton Championship has six Vietnamese players participating, but at this point only Thuy Linh remains after Vu Thi Trang, Le Duc Phat, Nguyen Hai Dang and the pair Dinh Hoang - Dinh Manh all stopped early.

With her excellent form and determination, Thuy Linh is becoming the biggest hope and also the last representative of Vietnamese badminton in the world arena this year.
