In round 1, Thuy Linh won against former world number 1 Ratchanon Intanon from Thailand. It was a match in which the Vietnamese player showed her high performance, with impressive shots to neutralize her opponent's unpredictable attacks.
Thanks to that, she won a ticket to the second round to face Kirsty Gilmour, a player from Scotland. The two had previously faced each other in 2024 and Gilmour won.
However, Thuy Linh did not let that happen again this time. The Vietnamese player is currently ranked 22nd in the world, 9 places higher than her opponent. She is also younger at 27, while Gilmour is 31.
Thanks to her superior technique and physical advantage, Thuy Linh took the initiative throughout most of the match. She continued to show her best, using difficult ball control techniques as she did against Intanon.
At the beginning of set 1, Gilmour took the lead 3-0, 10-5. But Thuy Linh never wavered, despite many unfortunate mistakes. She played calmly, read the situation to resolve and gradually equalized 13-13. From there, the Vietnamese badminton "hot girl" went straight to the 21-17 victory in set 1.
In the second set, Thuy Linh still faced difficulties when Gilmour played with determination. The two players fought each other with tense points. But in the end, Thuy Linh was still the braver one to win 23-21. This somewhat tense match lasted after 44 minutes.
The victory puts Thuy Linh in the round of 16, where she will face fourth seed Chen Yu Fei (China), who won an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo in 2021.
Therefore, the challenge for Thuy Linh is very big.
