On the afternoon of December 7, Vietnam badminton kicked off their SEA Games 33rd women’s team event against Malaysia in the quarterfinals. Despite their best efforts, the girls were unable to surprise their strong opponents.
Our girls only got a single win from Nguyen Thuy Linh in the first singles match.
However, the SEA Games is not only a competition for achievements and medals, but also a tournament that helps athletes compete with regional sports delegations, especially in badminton - where neighboring countries always hold the top positions in the world.
In the women's doubles match, Pham Thi Khanh and Pham Thi Dieu Ly of Vietnam had a valuable opportunity to face the current world number 2 pair, Pearly Tan and Muralitharan Thinaah (Malaysia).

It was no surprise that the Vietnamese pair lost 12-21 and 8-21 to their Malaysian opponents. However, facing two of the world’s top players helped them learn a lot.
Sharing after the match, both said this was a rare opportunity to face such a high-class player, especially at the SEA Games: "It is very rare that we can meet such great opponents. This is an opportunity for us to learn the shots and movements from them."
"When I first met them, I was really nervous. But once I got on the court, I just knew I had to try my best to complete the assigned tasks. Even if I lost, there was nothing to worry about because we both did our best."
