The powerful naval fleet of the US 7th Fleet visits Da Nang

On the afternoon of December 8, a US Navy fleet including the amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli and the cruiser USS Robert Smalls with more than 2,300 officers and sailors arrived in Da Nang City, beginning a visit that will last until December 11.

The convoy was led by Rear Admiral Thomas Shultz, Commander of the US Expeditionary Strike Group 7.

At 6:00 p.m. the same day, the ceremony to welcome the ship was held at Tien Sa port with the presence of leaders of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Da Nang city, the Command of Naval Region 3, Military Region 5, representatives of the Department of Foreign Affairs ( Ministry of National Defense ), the Navy and relevant functional agencies.

2025 marks the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-US diplomatic relations.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs of Da Nang city, the visit of the US Navy ship in Da Nang city will contribute to strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership established in 2023.

With its potential in tourism, culture, economy and hospitality, Da Nang is ready to act as a bridge for defense and security cooperation activities, cultural and sports exchanges and experience sharing between the two navies.

During their stay in Da Nang city, the crew will visit some places such as Hope Village, University of Foreign Languages ​​- Da Nang University and tourist attractions.

"The visit of the USS Tripoli and USS Robert Smalls, taking place as we conclude activities to celebrate 30 years of bilateral relations, is proof that the US-Vietnam partnership has never been better," said US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper at the ship welcoming ceremony on the afternoon of December 8.

Within the U.S. 7th Fleet area of ​​operations, Task Force 76 is responsible for conducting expeditionary combat operations with Navy and Marine Corps resources to support regional contingencies, from crisis response to full-scale combat operations.

The US 7th Fleet is the largest forward-deployed fleet of the US Navy, regularly cooperating and operating with allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
