Strengthening crop forecasting capacity for 20 northern provinces

Following the effective implementation in the Mekong Delta, the agricultural weather bulletin will accompany the northern provinces in protecting production and responding to natural disaster risks.

On December 8, the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) organized a training course on Building and disseminating Agricultural Weather Bulletins for 20 northern provinces.

Attending the opening ceremony were representatives of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT), representatives of 3 Regional Crop Production and Plant Protection Centers under the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, and many students from the northern provinces and cities.

Speaking at the ceremony, a representative of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection affirmed: "The agricultural weather bulletin is a useful tool to help farmers protect agricultural production and respond to risks caused by climate change and pests."

In recent years of implementation in the Mekong Delta, the agricultural weather bulletin has helped officials and people to develop production plans and make effective management and care decisions for crops. Therefore, it has avoided significant damage caused by weather and climate conditions to crops and livestock, improved production efficiency and has been highly appreciated by people in the implementation areas in the Mekong Delta provinces.

With the goal of continuing the successful results in the implementation of the Agricultural Weather Bulletin for the period 2020-2025, introducing and replicating the Technical Advances in the Process of building and disseminating the Agricultural Weather Bulletin to regions and crop subjects according to different ecological, climatic and weather characteristics across the country is an important task.

The training course is designed with 4 main content groups, including Introduction, guidance on the process of building and disseminating Agricultural Weather Bulletins; application of digital technology , practice in designing sample bulletins and Requiring provinces to build their first Agricultural Bulletins after completing the course.

"The Department will accompany the provinces in building a Technical Team to support the development and dissemination of agricultural weather bulletins, bulletin implementation plans and the completion of standard agricultural bulletins," a representative of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection affirmed.

The training workshop demonstrated the determination of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in enhancing resilience to the challenges of climate change and unusual weather phenomena that are occurring with increasing frequency and severity, in order to contribute to ensuring sustainable agricultural development. The participants actively contributed ideas, discussed practical issues, shared difficulties and applied the knowledge they had learned in practice.
