While the US announced an "accidental shooting" of its fighter jet over the Red Sea in the early morning of December 22 (Vietnam time), the Houthis issued another statement about the situation at that time.

On the evening of December 22, spokesman Yahya Sarea of the Houthi movement in Yemen announced that this force attacked the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman operating in the Red Sea and shot down an F/A-18 fighter jet.
The Houthis launched "eight cruise missiles and 17 drones" at US targets in the Red Sea, shooting down an F/A-18 jet as enemy destroyers tried to repel the attack, Sarea said, according to TASS news agency.
The spokesman said that during the Houthi attack, "most of the enemy's fighter jets left Yemeni airspace" to protect the aircraft carrier in the international waters of the Red Sea. After the attack, the US aircraft carrier withdrew to the north of this sea.
Earlier that day, the US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that a US Navy F/A-18 was accidentally hit by the guided missile cruiser USS Gettysburg. Fortunately, both pilots survived, but "initial assessments indicate that one suffered minor injuries."
CENTCOM confirmed that "this incident was not caused by enemy fire" and they are conducting a full investigation.
After the conflict between Israel and the Hamas movement escalated, the Houthis warned that they would attack Israeli territory and ban Israeli-related ships from passing through the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait until the Middle Eastern country stopped military operations against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.
Since mid-November, dozens of civilian ships have been attacked by Houthis in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.
In response to the Houthis’ actions, the US administration announced the formation of an international coalition to ensure freedom of navigation and protect shipping in the Red Sea. Since then, the US and the UK have carried out regular airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen.
Most recently, on December 21, CENTCOM announced that it had conducted precision airstrikes on a missile depot and a command-control facility operated by Houthi forces in Yemen's capital Sanaa.
The airstrikes were aimed at "disrupting and degrading Houthi operations, such as attacks on US Navy warships and commercial vessels in the southern Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, and the Gulf of Aden," the statement said.
The US military also said it had attacked multiple Houthi drones and an anti-ship cruise missile in the Red Sea.
