Promises a colorful film week

Compared to the previous two editions, the third Da Nang Asian Film Festival (DANAFF III) has grown significantly in terms of scale, duration and program content. Therefore, the preparation work has been closely directed from the beginning, especially the visual propaganda work and facilities to ensure good service for the successful implementation of the activities.

Do a good job of propaganda and visual agitation

The third Da Nang Asian Film Festival will take place from June 29 to July 5, but the preparation work has been carried out by the City's Cultural and Cinema Center for many months. Mr. Tran Xuan Thang, Deputy Director of the City's Cultural and Cinema Center, said that the center has proactively deployed a number of contents related to the film festival. Regarding proactive visual propaganda, the center has implemented about 500 banners hanging on main roads and 4 large billboards placed in locations with many tourists so that people and tourists can easily receive information related to the film festival such as the program and schedule of film screenings.

This year, there are more than 100 films participating and more than 200 screenings at Le Do, CGV Vincom Plaza, CGV Vinh Trung Plaza, Galaxy Cinema and Lotte Cinema. “We are issuing tickets completely free of charge to residents and tourists with very flexible screenings. There are 4 screenings a day, everyone can choose the films and screenings that are suitable for them to watch. In addition, preparations for seminars and press conferences are also being urgently implemented and completed this week for the film festival to be successful,” Mr. Thang shared.

Currently, the City Cultural - Cinema Center works with cinemas and arranges a volunteer for each cinema to manage ticket control during screenings for the film festival; at the same time, it decorates a check-in point and a billboard to introduce the film at those cinemas. In addition, the Center also organizes 3 outdoor film nights at Bach Dang walking street, Bien Dong park and Lien Chieu district administrative center. The films selected for outdoor screenings are popular films for all ages, including animated films. The Center also creates conditions for the Creative Arts Club to participate in seminars and workshops to listen to experts share their filmmaking experiences to learn and improve their professional skills.

Young audiences are excited about Vietnamese films

Thanks to good publicity, many young audiences came to get movie tickets early. In particular, through the media, information about the leading Asian actors participating was continuously and widely updated, attracting great attention from young people. Present from the first day of ticket distribution at Le Do Cinema, Pham Kim Oanh, a second-year student at the University of Economics (University of Danang) excitedly said: "I chose three movies including "Ancestral House", "Detective Kien - Headless Case", "Hanoi 12 Days and Nights".

In recent years, I see that Vietnamese films have developed very well. Many films have beautiful angles, so I want to go see them to support Vietnamese films. Especially war films will help me see the arduous but also heroic fighting process of previous generations of fathers and grandfathers. Meanwhile, Mr. Le Ngoc Trung, Hai Chau ward said: "In addition to Vietnamese war films, I also spend time watching foreign films, especially films participating in competitions to approach the culture and good films from countries with developed cinema in Asia such as China, Korea, Japan..."

In addition to the films participating in the competition, DANAFF III also has a program called “Vietnamese Cinema Today” with the screening of 18 films, including 8 feature films, 1 animated series with 6 short films and 2 documentaries to bring to the audience and Vietnamese and international filmmakers a panoramic view of Vietnamese films since DANAFF II. Screenwriter Tra Xuan Phuong, Chairman of the Da Nang City Cinema Association, said that the documentary “Sunshine on the Memory Land” will be screened in this program. The film will bring the audience back to the old memories of Da Nang through images and footage of photographers and cameramen of an old time, led by photographer Ong Van Sinh, researcher Bui Van Tieng and musician Tran Ai Nghia. The audience will be amazed at the changes of the city on the Han River after 50 years of liberation.

According to Mr. Nguyen Huu Thanh Hoang, Deputy Director of the Cinema Department, City Cultural and Cinema Center, free movie tickets will be distributed from June 24 until tickets are sold out at Le Do Cinema. During the film festival, Le Do Cinema will open a Korean film spotlight on June 30 and organize exchange activities with artists. Currently, the cinema has basically completed preparations to be ready to organize the film festival. "Compared to last year, the film program of this year's film festival has increased to 106 films (last year 64 films) and the cinema has also increased the film screening time to 7 days (last year 5 days). The cinema system has been increased from 5 screening rooms to 7 screening rooms from the cinema clusters to serve tourists and the city's public," Mr. Hoang confided.

This year’s film festival program has also been expanded with many new highlights, notably the launch of the “Asian Cinema Panorama” program - a selection of excellent and successful Asian cinema works at international film festivals in the past year, along with films selected by DANAFF for their premiere. This year also marks the appearance of the “Asian Film Critics Award” in the “Asian Cinema Panorama” program. With more than 100 excellent films from Vietnam and Asia participating, DANAFF III promises to bring the audience interesting experiences of a colorful film week.
