In episode six filmed in Hong Kong, Phuong My Chi chose the song Bong phu hoa (composed by DTAP) inspired by the story Nguoi con gai Nam Xuong . The singer enhanced the emotions compared to the original version. In the chorus, she sang in Chinese to help the audience and the judges easily access the meaning of the work. The Chinese part of the song was consulted and edited by a team of lecturers from the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City.
The Gen Z singer said that when bringing Vietnamese culture to the international stage, she does not stop at performing but focuses on fully conveying the content to everyone.
She and the DTAP group also put the chant of the song at the beginning so that the audience can feel the story with a strong Vietnamese spirit:
"Life is a mirror of tears
If you still love someone, you must say it all.
The Story of the Nam Xuong Girl
Broken love because of a shadow"
DTAP uses the Dan Co, associated with Southern folk music, as the main sound, combined with a modern arrangement.
After the performance, Phuong My Chi burst into tears when she won against singer Hoang Linh (China) with 15 votes from 21 judges.
Before the quarter-finals, Phuong My Chi and the DTAP group carefully analyzed the singers' strengths and decided to choose Hoang Linh as their opponent. Hoang Linh is known for combining electronic jazz with Chinese folk sounds, which has similarities with the musical color Phuong My Chi is pursuing.
This is the singer's second win on the show. Previously, she won at the Vietnam station, receiving compliments from judges Truong Luong Dinh, To Huu Bang, and Dan Truong. Despite losing at the Singapore station, she still had enough points to continue the competition.
In this round, the station kings (the name the organizers give to the winning contestants in each episode - according to the filming location) have the right to choose their opponents. If two contestants choose each other, they become a pair. The faces in the quarter-finals include: singer Ya, Cat Khac Tuyen Dat, Ly Cuu Triet, Pham Hi A, Hoang Linh and the station kings: Phuong My Chi (Vietnam), Vuong Hoang Hao (Singapore), Amsyar (Shanghai), Miyuna (Japan), Kha Lau (Malaysia).
Sing! Asia is a 30-day music competition on a cruise ship, organized by the iQiYi platform (China).
