Guide to using digital tools to comply with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)

From 30/12/2025, all goods exported to the EU in the following 7 groups will have to comply with the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR): Coffee, cocoa, soybeans, palm oil, rubber, wood, livestock (cows).

Key Requirements of the EUDR

Goods not produced from land deforested after January 1, 2021.

The manufacturing process must fully comply with the laws of the country of manufacture.

Importers/traders in Europe must submit a Due Diligence Statement (DDS) proving that the product is legal and not related to deforestation.

5 sets of digital tools to support EUDR compliance

Basic field mapping: Application that helps farmers/technicians mark farm locations.

Professional spatial analysis and mapping tool: Used by cooperatives and BSOs to verify that production areas are not in deforested areas.

Satellite-based environmental monitoring: Providing independent evidence of forest cover and forest change.

Sustainability and traceability management tools: Manage production information, sustainability certification, product records for each batch.

Supply chain and risk management: Integrated system helps EU exporters and customers monitor risks and ensure compliance across the chain.

To meet the requirements of the EUDR, Vietnamese enterprises need to proactively prepare complete documents and data related to raw material areas. First of all, it is necessary to collect and provide geographic coordinates (geodata) of the growing area to prove that the production area is not related to deforestation after January 1, 2021. At the same time, it is necessary to have clear legal documents proving legal land use rights and the production process complies with Vietnamese law. Another important factor is traceability in the supply chain - from farm to processing and export factories - to ensure transparency and reliability for importing partners in the EU.

Preparing this information and documents not only helps businesses meet legal requirements from the European market, but also affirms their commitment to sustainable development, increases credibility with international customers and maintains competitiveness in the context of increasingly strict environmental and human rights regulations.
