The average weight of mature chickens is 2.2 kg - 2.5 kg after 2 months of raising, suitable for consumer tastes. Mr. Nguyen Nang Cuong, residing in Thanh Hiep hamlet, Thanh Dong commune, Tan Chau district, decided to import this breed of chicken to raise.

Potential for economic development

Mr. Cuong's farm raises Luong Hue chickens with two selected chicken lines LH-001 (native chicken) and LH-009 (crossbred chicken), provided by Luong Hue Poultry Breeding Joint Stock Company in Hai Phong .

This breed of chicken is less prone to disease, the quality of its meat is superior to other breeds, and the longer it is raised, the less dry its meat becomes and the more fragrant and sweet it remains. During the raising process, Mr. Cuong applies the vaccination process according to the manufacturer's and experts' recommendations.

Mr. Nguyen Nang Cuong said: "Determining that disease safety is vital in livestock farming, I pay special attention to protecting the health of the chicken flock by feeding them food mixed with disease-preventing vaccines, using probiotics and herbs in drinking water.

Taking care of the chickens with a scientific diet helps the chicken meat not to be dry, keeping its natural deliciousness. The family's success today is thanks to learning, applying scientific and technical advances and constantly improving farming methods, in which, choosing chicken breeds is the decisive factor.

Luong Hue chickens are raised free range.

Chickens spend most of their time outdoors, only entering the coop to eat and sleep. This not only helps them grow better but also saves a significant amount of food costs. Chickens can find food from insects, grass and leaves, and at the same time help the chicken meat become delicious and firm, especially when the chicken is fed corn, the chicken skin has a natural yellow color, very eye-catching.

The farm follows the free-range chicken model, so Mr. Cuong focuses on creating shade for the chickens, especially in the hot season. Therefore, the farm grows jackfruit and almond trees to provide shade and fruit for the chickens to eat. Currently, the farm raises 2,000 chickens, 88 days old, about 30-40 days from now, they will be sold. Feeding chickens fruit also helps save a small part of the cost of raising them, while improving the quality of chicken meat, which will be more delicious than if only fed industrial feed.

Although raised in a free-range system, the barn area was designed very scientifically by Mr. Cuong, utilizing materials such as rice husks as biological bedding and an automatic watering system to keep the barn floor dry and clean.

In particular, he also installed air intake balls on the roof of the barn to help ventilate and reduce toxic gases in the barn space. During the breeding process, the main focus is on disease prevention, improving the resistance of livestock by taking care of and cleaning the barn regularly.

Mr. Nguyen Nang Cuong feeds chickens with jackfruit and Indian almond leaves to improve the quality of chicken meat.

Mr. Cuong said: “At first, I raised crossbred chickens that were very difficult to sell. According to research, the Tay Ninh and Ho Chi Minh City markets required the chickens to not be too big, and the quality of the chicken meat had to be delicious. Through research online, I learned about the Luong Hue chicken breed that was popular in the market.

Due to the genetic source, the meat quality is relatively good, the feed source is mixed, using agricultural by-products so the quality of the chicken is also improved, thanks to that I find a relatively stable output. Customers who have consumed this chicken breed find the meat quality meets the requirements, so they continue to stick with my farm."

“Every month I sell 1,500-2,000 chickens, with an average weight of 1.8 kg/chicken, and a farm area of 2.4 hectares. The price of chickens sold to traders is 80,000 VND/kg. Due to the decrease in purchasing power since last year, I have no intention of increasing the herd. The price of chickens fluctuates depending on the season, around 17,000 VND/chicken. After 1 day of age, chickens are vaccinated against 5 diseases, making it convenient for those who are new to raising them. The raising time is about 4 months before selling them,” Mr. Cuong shared.

Encourage farmers to maintain effective economic models

According to the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Station of Tan Chau district, Mr. Cuong's "huge" chicken farm is currently the dream of many farmers, because for many breeders, it takes 5-10 years to create such a property.

The free-range chicken farming model of Mr. Nguyen Nang Cuong's family is not only an effective economic solution but also a clear demonstration of the application of science and technology in agriculture. This is a potential direction, not only helping to increase the value of products but also contributing to environmental protection and ensuring the health of the community.

Mr. Nguyen Nang Cuong's chicken farm has about 2,000 chickens.

Ms. Le Thi Ngoc Thuy - Vice President of Tan Chau District Farmers' Association said that the chicken farming model of Mr. Nguyen Nang Cuong's household brings economic efficiency to the people. The locality continues to encourage, motivate and maintain economic models that are operating effectively in the area such as: Minh Trung Custard Apple Agricultural Cooperative (Tan Hung); goat and cricket farming cooperative (Suoi Day commune); fattening cows (Tan Hoi commune); bamboo rat farming model (Tan Hoa commune); avocado farming, organic vegetable growing (Tan Ha commune); duck farming cooperative on land, sweet corn growing model (Suoi Ngo commune)...

Mr. Nguyen Nang Cuong checks the barn system.

In addition, the Standing Committee of the District Farmers' Association and the communes and towns also regularly propagate and mobilize cadres and farmer members to raise awareness of the role and position of economic models, especially collective economy, associated with the implementation of the National Target Program on new rural construction.

In the coming time, the District Farmers' Association will continue to support and create conditions to help members borrow capital from the Farmers' Support Fund, the Social Policy Bank, the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development, and commercial banks associated with the Association so that members can develop livestock and production models in an organic, sustainable, safe, environmentally friendly, and high-tech agricultural direction, bringing economic value as well as higher income; coordinate to organize training courses to transfer scientific and technical advances, helping members effectively apply them to their family's economic model.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the industry has been focusing on applying high-tech agriculture to reduce emissions in livestock farming; focusing on developing a circular economic model, thereby optimizing raw materials, reducing production costs, in line with the goals of sustainable development, adapting to and minimizing climate change.

Our province is also focusing on attracting investment in the livestock industry in accordance with the planning. In the investment attraction orientation, there is selection and priority given to projects with advanced science and technology content, environmental friendliness, renewable energy development, circular economic model development, clean agriculture, high-tech agriculture, etc.
