With the conditions of the southernmost coastal region of the Central region and the advantage of "heavenly" sunshine and wind, Binh Thuan will prioritize the development of renewable energy and clean energy projects. These are energy sources such as wind power, especially offshore wind power, hydrogen, solar power, LNG gas power, and continue to research and exploit the maximum potential of hydropower on irrigation lakes, reservoirs, and pumped storage hydropower in the locality. In the field of energy - electricity, the province also aims to develop the energy industry with a high growth rate, which is the industry with the largest contribution to the added value of Binh Thuan industry. Along with that, it also creates favorable conditions to attract investment, promote the implementation of energy projects and promote the development of supporting industries for the energy industry.
In the renewable energy industry, up to now, dozens of wind and solar power projects have been implemented in Binh Thuan, with 9 wind power plants (total capacity of 335 MW) and 26 solar power plants (total capacity of 1,072 MW) currently in operation. Regarding offshore wind power, it is known that the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Industry and Trade have agreed in principle to allow Enterprize Energy Company to study and survey the Thang Long Wind wind power project offshore Ke Ga with a proposed capacity of 3,400 MW. In addition, there are 7 other offshore wind power projects registered for survey in the province with a total expected capacity of about 18,800 MW, of which the La Gan project is proposed to have a capacity of 3,500 MW.
At the Announcement Ceremony of Binh Thuan Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha highly appreciated the potential and advantages of the locality, thereby also suggesting some orientations for the economic development of the province. In which, he emphasized that Binh Thuan must take advantage of the huge potential of sunlight and wind for the development of renewable energy, combined with the pumped storage hydropower model to create a green, stable and balanced source of electricity for the power system. And that this will be a breakthrough advantage for the locality to attract investors in the global green transformation trend...
According to the development orientation, in the coming time, Binh Thuan will prioritize investment, exploitation, effective and economical use of renewable energy sources, new energy, clean energy associated with protecting the ecological environment. Such as developing wind power, solar power, LNG power projects suitable to the ability to ensure the safety of the power grid system of the province and the region. Continuing to research and create conditions to promote the exploitation and use of offshore wind energy to produce hydrogen (considered new, clean energy) to contribute to ensuring the supply of new energy for the entire national system, aiming to become an industrial center for clean energy... In attracting investment in exploiting renewable energy sources, new energy, clean energy in the province, attention will also be paid to ensuring national defense and security, meeting the requirements of industrialization and modernization of the country as well as contributing to implementing Vietnam's commitments at international conferences on climate change.
