Mobilizing nearly 5 billion VND from businesses and the community to preserve biodiversity and the environment

The project "Mobilizing financial resources for biodiversity conservation and sustainable environmental protection" was approved by the People's Committee of Da Nang City in Decision No. 1709/QD-UBND dated May 14, 2020, assigning the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Da Nang City to be the project owner, Green Viet Center and GSI Institute to coordinate implementation.

During 42 months of implementation (from July 2020 to December 2023), the Project has achieved some outstanding results such as: mobilizing more than 4.6 billion VND in funding from businesses and organizations to implement ideas and small projects on biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.

At the same time, improve the capacity of more than 50 social organizations, clubs and unions operating in the field of biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.

Along with that, funding and technical support for 25 related initiatives; implementing 4 communication campaigns, raising awareness of the importance of biodiversity for the community and promoting cooperation between businesses and social organizations operating in the field of biodiversity conservation and sustainable environmental protection...

Although the project is being summarized but not finished at the end of this year, in the coming time, many project activities will continue, especially activities calling for resources to continue implementing programs and ideas for biodiversity conservation and environmental protection.

Representative of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Da Nang City presented a gift of gratitude to Mr. Jesus Lavina - Deputy Head of Cooperation Department, Representative of the European Union Delegation to Vietnam.

Deputy Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quang Vinh also highly appreciated the project's activities over the past 3 years, especially the investigation, monitoring andcommunication activities to raise awareness to protect the red-shanked douc langur population in Son Tra peninsula; mobilizing funding resources from businesses and the community to plant more than 13,924 urban trees, also contributing to the implementation of the Government's "Project to plant one billion trees in the period of 2021 - 2025".

The project results contribute to biodiversity conservation and sustainable environmental protection for Da Nang city in particular and some provinces in the Central Highlands region in general.

During its development, Da Nang City has always focused on environmental protection, nature conservation and biodiversity. The city has, is and will allocate resources to implement many projects related to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.

In addition to the resources deployed by the city, domestic and foreign cooperation projects provide the city with huge resources in terms of funding, technology, experience, and in-depth knowledge of environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.

Through this, the city has been creating good relationships and trust with organizations and sponsors; domestic and foreign organizations have proactively contacted and proposed to support the locality in implementing research and pilot activities with high efficiency.

Faced with current opportunities and challenges in environmental protection and biodiversity conservation, the city calls on domestic and foreign investors and organizations to join the city in building Da Nang into an environmental city, towards an ecological urban area.
