According to Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, at around 6:11 a.m. on June 1, the Port Authority received information that the Song Ba canoe (HP-2947) of the Nam Trieu Channel Management Station - Northeast Maritime Safety Enterprise, was on its way from the Maritime Safety Service Wharf to Bai Cat Lighthouse for patrol when it encountered an accident.
The canoe sank at buoy number 15 of Nam Trieu channel. At the time of the accident, there were 2 people on the canoe.
According to Director of Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority Nguyen Anh Vu, authorities have been implementing many search and rescue plans at the scene to look for the missing crew member.
Immediately after receiving the information, port authority leaders quickly arrived at the scene to command the search and rescue work.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Vu, Director of Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority, said that the Song Ba canoe had an accident due to hitting the bottom of the cargo outside the shipping channel, causing it to capsize and sink.
Currently, the search and rescue force at the scene consists of 14 vehicles participating in the search and rescue. At the same time, fishing boats around the area are mobilized to support the search and rescue work. Currently, 1 person has been rescued, and 1 person is still missing.
"At the scene, the weather is favorable for search and rescue operations. Search and rescue plans are being deployed quickly, from searching the sunken canoe area, the area suspected of drifting in the northeast direction, as well as mobilizing fishermen to use nets and fishing gear to search for the crew members," Mr. Vu informed.
The Port Authority also requested the Hai Phong Coastal Information Station to issue warning bulletins to ships in the area and request ships traveling through the area to increase vigilance and support search and rescue.
