Hai Duong female student achieved SAT 1590, IELTS 8.5

While many candidates are worried and nervous about their exam scores, which majors and which schools to apply to, Do Thi Van Ha, a 12th grade English student at Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted, Hai Duong, has firmly secured early admission to four major universities: National Economics University, Foreign Trade University, Foreign Language University - Hanoi National University, and Hanoi University.

The Hai Duong female student achieved admirable SAT scores of 1590 and IELTS 8.5. Previously, Van Ha also achieved a number of other achievements such as the Encouragement Prize for National Excellent Students in English for Grade 11; Third Prize for National Excellent Students in English for Grade 12; Second Prize for Provincial Excellent Students in English for Grade 10; Third Prize for Provincial Excellent Students in Grades 11 and 12.

Because she passed the early admission exams to some universities, Van Ha only needed to achieve a moderate high school graduation score. However, the female student also achieved impressive scores of 8.6 in Math, 9.5 in Literature, 9.6 in English, 9.5 in History, 9.5 in Geography and 9.5 in Civics.

Sharing with Dan Viet newspaper reporter, Van Ha said: "I was admitted to 4 universities, but after a while of thinking, I only registered 2 wishes at the National Economics University, in which wish 1 is Business Analysis."

It is known that Van Ha became the valedictorian of the combined admission method with a score of 29.82 points (excluding priority points). The female student is exempted from 100% of tuition fees while studying at the school.

Talking about her English learning achievements, taking foreign language certification exams and optimizing costs, Van Ha expressed: "For students majoring in English, taking the IELTS exam is quite necessary. Therefore, before entering grade 12, I registered for the IELTS exam. On the contrary, I took the SAT in June, a rather late time because I was worried that my graduation exam score was not enough to pass the National Economics University.

The IELTS and SAT certificates helped me get early admission to many universities, which reduced the pressure on me during the high school graduation exam. I think that is also why my graduation exam results were better than expected.

During the time I was studying for the IELTS and SAT, I received help from many teachers, which helped me determine the right direction for my work. In addition, to optimize time and cost, I searched for documents online and studied with friends so we could help each other."

Van Ha revealed her secret to learning a foreign language: "I started learning a foreign language in grade 2. Perhaps I also had a passion and a bit of talent for learning English compared to other subjects, so since then I have focused on English quite a lot. In addition to studying English in class and doing exam preparation sets, I have also been exposed to the language quite a lot, from the Disney cartoons I watched in elementary school, to reading comics, looking up information and watching YouTube in English. I think that interest, determination and applying English in daily life can help improve language ability significantly."

The IELTS 8.5 female student is always grateful for her parents' support since she was little. Her parents always care for her, create conditions for Van Ha to focus on studying, respect her wishes and strengths, and share her joys and sorrows in studying.

"My parents' support is a very meaningful encouragement for me. However, my parents never put pressure on me about studying. As a teacher, my mother did not require me to be an excellent student or to study day and night for exams. She only told me to focus on my health, life skills and have beautiful friendships. Thanks to that, I always look back on 12 years of school with lots of joy and beautiful memories," said Van Ha.

Commenting on herself, Ha considers herself a curious person because she often reads more about interesting knowledge in the curriculum as well as encountered in life. Besides, Van Ha said that there are still many things that need to be changed and is trying to improve this summer. Ha's biggest hobby is listening to music, especially attending live shows and plans to learn to play a musical instrument when she has the opportunity.

Revealing her decision to choose the National Economics University as her destination for her upcoming study journey, Van Ha said: "When I was in grade 12, I was still quite uncertain about my next path. Initially, because I was afraid that the Economics major was quite broad and comprehensive, I had no intention of entering the school. But when I learned more about the school, I found that it had good teaching quality, modern facilities and a favorable environment for me to develop both knowledge and social skills. Among the majors at the school, Business Analysis is probably the most suitable for me because it focuses on the ability to analyze, think and advise, as well as has prospects in the coming years. Because the curriculum is almost entirely in English, I will also have access to updated materials as well as use the second language more often.

I hope to achieve the best academic results and have many meaningful activities here during my 4 years of university. Currently, I am improving myself and learning some necessary knowledge before entering the new university journey."

Ms. Pham Thi Dieu Thu, homeroom teacher of English class 12, Nguyen Trai High School for the Gifted, Hai Duong commented: "Van Ha is an intelligent student, good at studying, has a talent for learning foreign languages with a very good memory and is always very neat and careful. In addition, she is very modest, easy to get along with and actively participates in extracurricular activities.

In addition to studying well in her major, Van Ha also studies all subjects well and has knowledge in many fields. She won the third prize in the National Excellent Student in English, won the third prize in the school-level Olympia final, and together with the English major, won the championship in the school-level Intellectual Arena competition in 2023."
