On the morning of June 30, at the ceremony to announce the resolutions and decisions of the Central and local governments on merging provincial and commune-level administrative units, ending the operation of district-level administrative units, establishing Party organizations, appointing Party committees, People's Councils, People's Committees, and Vietnam Fatherland Front Committees of Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Quang Duong, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Organization Committee, announced the Politburo 's decision to appoint the Executive Committee, Standing Committee, and personnel of the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.

According to the decision, the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee is directly under the Central Party Committee, established on the basis of merging the three Party Committees of Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau , and Binh Duong. The new Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee has 107 members, the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee has 27 members.
The new Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee includes Secretary Nguyen Van Nen. The new Deputy Secretaries of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee include Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Nguyen Van Duoc, Vo Van Minh, and Nguyen Phuoc Loc.
Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Van Nen was born in 1957, his hometown is Tay Ninh province. He has a Bachelor of Law degree.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nen is a member of the 13th Politburo; Secretary of the 12th Party Central Committee; Member of the 11th, 12th, and 13th Party Central Committee; and National Assembly delegate of the 14th term.
