Shocking image at SEA Games: Manually sucking water from the field

(Dan Tri) - The Thai media had to use the word "shock" when witnessing the SEA Games Organizing Committee using manual methods to absorb water before the baseball match between the Indonesian and Malaysian teams.

This match took place on the morning of December 5. A morning rain made the field quite muddy. To the point that Thairath newspaper had to exclaim: "The noise about the shortcomings of the SEA Games hosted by Thailand continues. The stadium used for baseball matches has deteriorated to an unbelievable level."

“It is unimaginable that an official competition would be held here. This has shocked fans in Southeast Asia,” Thairath added.

The reason why Thailand’s leading daily newspaper had to use the word “shocking” was because the match’s Organizing Committee had to use manual methods to fix the puddles, which was to use cloth towels to absorb the puddles on the field. Then, they used the method of adding more soil to cover these puddles.

Thairath commented in frustration: “The stadium staff used rags to try to dry the puddles on the field and used dirt to cover the incident before the game started. There were not many spectators watching the baseball. The only people present in the field were foreigners, supporters of the two teams Malaysia and Indonesia.”

It should be noted that Thailand is not a country where baseball is strongly developed. Therefore, the facilities for this sport in the land of golden temples are quite limited. This sport is played in Pathum Thani (about 40km from Bangkok).

However, because Thailand hosts too many sports (50 sports) and too many events (574 events) at this year's Southeast Asian Games , there are many sports and many events, the host country seems to lack experience in organizing.

That is one of the reasons for many mistakes in Thailand's organization in the past few days.
