On the evening of December 5, the Malaysian women's team suffered a heavy 0-7 defeat against Vietnam in the opening match of the 33rd SEA Games women's football tournament.
After the match, coach Joel Cornelli could not hide his sadness at losing so badly to the Vietnamese women's team. He also did not expect his team to lose so much: "There is always a difference in strength, ranking and class between the two teams, but I tried to think, to find some ideas to narrow the gap. But the gap in level is really too big."
He bitterly admitted the huge difference in the level of women's football between the two teams: "We need more time. I've only been working here for 6 months."

"We will try our best. In the next match, maybe we will have more opportunities to play football and create a good match. That is what we will try to do to come back after this loss," the head coach of the Malaysian women's team added.
The Malaysian women's team does not have many opportunities at the 33rd SEA Games as they are in an extremely strong group with Myanmar, the Philippines and Vietnam. This is considered a valuable opportunity for their young players to compete and learn.
