President Prabowo Subianto attended the send-off ceremony of Indonesian athletes for the 2025 SEA Games on the afternoon of December 5. During the ceremony, Mr. Prabowo decided to double the bonus for Indonesian athletes who won gold medals at this event from 500 million rupiah to 1 billion rupiah (about 1.5 billion VND).
The Indonesian head of state stressed that athletes do not compete just for money, but financial support will help ensure their future. "The success of athletes is not only judged by material aspects. But you must believe that our country is great, and understand and respect the merits of heroes," Mr. Prabowo said.
In addition to the immediate financial incentives to boost the competitive spirit of athletes, Mr. Prabowo announced plans to build a 500-hectare sports center. The facility is designed for long-term sports development, with the Indonesian government's plan to start educating and training children from the age of 8.
"We will send our children there. We will bring the best coaches. We will train them from the age of eight. With this development, Indonesia will produce young heroes who will raise the country's reputation," he said.
The Indonesian delegation to the 2025 SEA Games consists of 1,021 athletes. They will compete in 48 of the 51 sports at the event and aim to win at least 85 gold medals, to maintain the third place overall they won at the 32nd SEA Games in Cambodia.
