After winning an early ticket to the semi-finals of the 2025 Southeast Asian U23 Championship, head coach Gerald Vanenburg of Indonesia U23 said his team will have to be extremely cautious if facing Vietnam U23 or Thailand U23.
U23 Indonesia has qualified for the semi-finals after a draw with U23 Malaysia in the final round of the group stage on the evening of July 21. According to experts, the team from the archipelago will likely face U23 Thailand in the semi-finals and if they win, they may meet U23 Vietnam or U23 Philippines in the final.
Sharing with the media, coach Gerald Vanenburg said: "I have reviewed the match tapes and realized that they are all strong teams, with good organization of play. We will continue to analyze and find the most reasonable approach to the match."
U23 Indonesia enters the semi-finals early, wary of Vietnam and Thailand
"Both U23 Vietnam and U23 Thailand are strong opponents. The matches with them will certainly not be easy and we need to prepare carefully" - He emphasized.
Despite a big 8-0 win over U23 Brunei in the opening match, coach Vanenburg admitted that the U23 Indonesia attack has not yet reached its best form, as they only scored 1 more goal in the next two matches. The Dutch coach believes that the team needs to improve their attacking ability if they want to go deep and aim for the championship this year.
Indonesia U23 is only participating in the tournament for the third time but won the championship in 2019 and was runner-up in 2023. Now, the host of the tournament is aiming for another title in the tournament.
Today, the remaining match of the U23 Southeast Asia semi-final round will be revealed after U23 Vietnam plays U23 Cambodia at 8:00 p.m. tonight. NLDO newspaper will report online from 7:30 p.m., we invite readers to follow.
