Power Reserve has been available on iPhone devices since the iPhone XR and iPhone XS. It preserves a small amount of battery power so that features like Find My unlocking and NFC can still work even when the device is out of battery. With iOS 18, Apple is improving this feature even more for iPhone 15 users.
iOS 18 update has many new features
As mentioned on Reddit, when an iPhone running iOS 18 runs out of battery, the phone can continue to display the time in the upper left corner of the device. This is a small but useful upgrade. The battery icon will still be visible and users will see an "iPhone can be found" message when there is still battery left.
iPhone running iOS 18 runs out of battery, phone can continue to display time
It seems that this feature of displaying the time when the battery is low is limited to iPhone 15 models. When tested on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, the feature did not work, but worked as expected on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The Power Reserve feature has been part of iPhones since the iPhone XR and iPhone XS. However, it's unclear why the feature that shows the time when the battery is depleted doesn't work on these older devices.
This improvement from Apple in iOS 18 will definitely bring a better user experience for iPhone 15 users, helping them not only stay in touch but also manage time effectively even when their device is out of battery.
