iPhone 15 price drop is big, should you still buy it?

At the time of launch, the iPhone 15 cost 20 million VND with the lowest version of 128Gb. Only 4 months left until the iPhone 17 generation is released, so the iPhone 15 is having price reductions, making this model more accessible.

Referring to Apple authorized dealers in Vietnam, the phone has a genuine price with the lowest configuration of 15.6 million VND; with used devices, the price is now more than 13 million VND. So in 2025, is the 2-year-old iPhone 15 really worth owning?

About performance

The main difference, of course, is processor power. While every iPhone 16 is powered by some version of Apple’s A18 chip, right down to the iPhone 16e, both the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus are stuck with the A16.

That means iPhone 15 devices won't support running Apple Intelligence, which includes everything from notification summaries to Visual Intelligence and ChatGPT integration.

The iPhone 15 only has 6GB of RAM, compared to 8GB on the iPhone 16 series, but the increase between generations is mainly for the benefit of Apple's intelligence. It can make a difference in some other areas, especially high-end 3D games.

Camera

Functionally, the iPhone 15's camera system is almost identical to the iPhone 16 series.

The standard iPhone 16 has the benefits of macro photography, Visual Intelligence, and spatial photo and video support that you can experience with Vision Pro, but hardware-wise, it still uses the same 48-megapixel main camera and 13-megapixel ultra-wide camera as the iPhone 15. Most photos and videos will look identical in normal lighting conditions.

As for the "late-born" version like the iPhone 16e, the iPhone 15 model is really advantageous.

The iPhone 16e has to "sacrifice" the ultra-wide-angle camera, so if you're into taking panoramic, architectural, or tight-space photos, the iPhone 15 is the better choice.

The iPhone 16e also lacks Focus Control, which lets iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 owners change the focus point of a portrait photo after it's taken, as well as a number of other features, like Action (stabilization) and Cinematic (shallow depth of field) modes for video; and there's also no wind noise reduction on the iPhone 15.

Battery life, connectivity

The obvious beat out of the base iPhone 15 is battery life, with users getting around 20 hours of use based on Apple's testing, while the standard iPhone 16 gets 22 hours and the iPhone 16e is currently the phone with an impressive 26 hours of battery life (just 1 hour less than my iPhone 16 Pro).

In reality, no one uses their phones the way Apple does, and users will have to charge all of these devices overnight, but the iPhone 16e may be more desirable for those who travel .

In terms of wireless charging, it's a pity that the iPhone 15 with MagSafe only supports Qi 7.5W; meanwhile, the iPhone 16 supports the iPhone 16's 15W wireless charging, except for the iPhone 16e model which doesn't support this charging standard.

The iPhone 15 has a beautifully designed camera, and its appearance is still trendy, as Apple has not changed much in appearance in the iPhone 16 series.

Another feature that the iPhone 16e lacks compared to the iPhone 15 (currently priced in the same segment) is Dynamic Island multitasking.

In fact, this feature may be more important than MagSafe for some people, as it makes it easier to control media playback, switch apps, and track live activities like timers and food deliveries.

There aren't too many other differences to point out, but it's worth noting that only the regular iPhone 16 supports Wi-Fi 7 and the 16e doesn't support the fastest form of 5G, called mmWave.

If you have a smart home, neither the iPhone 15 nor the iPhone 16e have Thread radios for compatible accessories. The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16e have a customizable Action button in place of the ring/mute switch.

Through the above comparisons, the iPhone 15 is still a trendy looking device, with a square design, rounded edges, and a Dynamic Island integrated screen.

However, if you buy this device, you may regret not having Apple Intelligence features and impressive battery life. But with the current price for the new iPhone 15, for basic daily tasks, this model is a product that users can completely consider choosing.
