Iran warns of disaster if US and Israel attack Tehran's nuclear facilities

(Dan Tri) - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that if the US and Israel attack Tehran's nuclear facilities, it will be a terrible disaster for the entire region.

Iran said Israel and the United States would be "crazy" to attack Tehran's nuclear facilities, saying it would only cause "a very bad disaster" for the entire region.

The warning was made by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in an interview with Sky News and is also the first message Tehran has announced since Donald Trump took office as US President for the second term.

In an interview with Sky News in the Iranian capital, Abbas Araghchi also criticized the US President for suggesting "clearing" Palestinians from Gaza. The top Iranian diplomat responded by sarcastically suggesting "sending the Israelis to Greenland."

Referring to the possibility that, with US backing, Israel could attack the nuclear weapons program that Tel Aviv accuses Tehran of developing, Araghchi said that "any attack on our nuclear facilities will face an immediate and decisive response."

However, Iran's foreign minister said "I don't think they will do such a crazy thing. This is really crazy and will turn the whole region into a very bad disaster".

Tensions between the US and Iran increased during Mr. Trump's first term when in 2018, Mr. Trump withdrew the US from the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5 + 1 group (including the 5 permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany).

Under the deal, Iran would limit its uranium enrichment activities in exchange for the lifting of Western sanctions.

Iran has always maintained that its nuclear program is purely for civilian and peaceful purposes.

However, since Mr Trump turned his back on the deal, Iran is believed to have restarted its uranium enrichment program at a level that Western governments say is "only for making nuclear weapons".
