According to ABC News, citing a US official, Israeli missiles struck a location in Iran on the evening of April 18th local time (morning of April 19th in Vietnam).
Iran's Fars news agency also reported that a loud explosion was heard at an airport in the Iranian city of Isafahan, but the cause is unclear. Several flights have been asked to divert from Iranian airspace.
The attack occurred five days after Iran deployed hundreds of drones and missiles in retaliation for the April 1 airstrike on the consular building within the Iranian embassy in Syria, which Tehran accused Israel of carrying out. Most of the drones and missiles were subsequently shot down before entering Israeli territory.
Iran stated that its attack was within the framework of international law, citing Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, and affirmed that it had no intention of continuing such activities and was not seeking to escalate tensions in the region.
The international community is currently calling on all parties to exercise restraint and avoid escalating tensions in the region.
Earlier that day, Iran's IRNA news agency reported that the country had activated its air defense system in several cities after state media reported hearing explosions near the central city of Isfahan.
Flights over the cities of Isfahan, Shiraz, and Tehran have been suspended.
Mehr News Agency also reported that all flights to and from Imam Khomeini International Airport in Tehran were cancelled until 7:00 GMT.
