According to statistics from Tan Son Nhat International Airport, on April 30, the airport is expected to serve more than 115,000 passengers, with 767 flights taking off and landing.

Of which, the domestic terminal alone recorded over 60,000 arrivals and departures, the rest were international passengers. Previously, on April 29, the number was even higher with over 120,000 passengers.

The surge in people caused most areas from the parking lot, entrance, check-in counter to security screening area to be crowded.

On the occasion of the April 30 holiday this year, the newly completed T3 terminal with an investment capital of 11,000 billion VND put into operation a number of flights on the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City - Van Don routes operated by Vietnam Airlines , partially reducing the load at T1 terminal.

Today, 41 flights arrived and 8,300 passengers arrived at the new terminal. According to observations, passengers moved around leisurely, the terminal was spacious so many people felt comfortable. Some shops selling food and drinks have come into operation, serving passengers flying at the new terminal.

Amid the pressure of serving hundreds of thousands of passengers every day, air passengers are recommended to check in for flights without documents via the VNeID application.

According to the instructions, users just need to open the VNeID application, have level 2 identification, go to "Airline Services", and check-in online.

At the security counter and boarding gate, passengers stand in the correct position, look into the camera so that the system can recognize their face, authenticate them and open the gate automatically.

From April 19, Tan Son Nhat T3 terminal officially came into operation and activated the biometric identification system integrated with VNeID, allowing passengers to travel throughout the journey without having to present documents.

This technology has also been applied at Noi Bai airport since April 28, initially for passengers of Vietnam Airlines and Vietjet on domestic flights.

"I tried checking in with VNeID, everything happened very quickly, just a few steps on the phone and a face scan and it was done. No need to present documents, no need to interact with staff, saving a lot of time" - Ms. Le Thi Huyen, a passenger on the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi flight, shared.

However, many passengers are still confused because they do not know how to use it, or the application has not been updated to the new version, causing the check-in process to not be as expected.

Airlines and airports recommend that passengers upgrade their VNeID accounts to level 2, use the latest versions of both VNeID and the airline app, and carry valid identification documents as backup in case the system malfunctions or is not yet supported.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that in addition to increasing flight frequency and adding human resources at the airport, promoting digital transformation in aviation procedures is a long-term solution to reduce pressure on the airport, especially during peak holidays.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that the peak period for the April 30 holiday this year lasts from April 29 to May 4, with a total of more than 7,500 domestic flights scheduled, an average of 685 flights per day, an increase of 21% over the same period last year.

The total number of seats supplied during this period is estimated at 1.5 million. Of which, the main route between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City alone has 1,261 flights, an increase of 16% compared to 2024.

Notably, Ho Chi Minh City is still the center of travel flows, with the number of flights arriving and departing from Tan Son Nhat airport accounting for 5,083 flights, equivalent to nearly 70% of the total number of domestic flights nationwide during the holiday.

Ho Chi Minh City is the destination of many domestic and foreign delegations on this year's big holiday. The occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day with military parades attracts thousands of people from all over the country.

In addition, domestic tourist destinations such as Da Nang, Nha Trang, Phu Quoc, Quy Nhon, Da Lat, etc. also recorded a high increase in the number of visitors, with flight occupancy rates reaching 90-95%.
