The number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first quarter of 2024 brought positive signals when it reached a growth of 72% over the same period last year.

Since the beginning of 2024, with the determination to create a breakthrough momentum for socio-economic development according to the set goals, the Government and the Prime Minister have resolutely directed ministries, branches and localities to focus on implementing and developing action plans to synchronously implement solutions to achieve the growth target. Vietnam's socio-economic performance in the first quarter of 2024 achieved positive results in the context of many uncertainties in the world economy, affirming the management and operation policies of the Government, the Prime Minister, ministries, branches and localities to gradually promote effectiveness.

In particular, the first quarter of 2024 witnessed very vibrant trade and service activities. The number of international visitors to Vietnam increased sharply, reflecting the effectiveness of favorable visa policies and tourism stimulus programs. Transportation activities maintained positive growth momentum in both passenger and cargo transport.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong, Director General of the General Statistics Office, said that trade activities were vibrant, tourism recovered strongly thanks to the effectiveness of favorable visa policies and tourism stimulus programs, and export turnover of key products increased.

In March alone, it reached nearly 1.6 million arrivals, an increase of 4.4% over the previous month and an increase of 78.6% over the same period last year.

Of which, visitors mainly came from 3 regions: Asia, Europe and America.

In addition, in the first quarter, many traditional festivals and cultural and artistic activities were held everywhere, creating a unique and impressive picture across the country. Sports and physical training movements were widely organized, and many mass sports movements were launched.

Ms. Dinh Thi Thuy Phuong, Director of the Department of Trade and Service Statistics, commented: "The overall economic growth in the first quarter had a great contribution from accommodation and travel services. In the first 3 months of the year, well-implemented policies related to tourism stimulus have created a strong recovery for this industry, thereby having a widespread impact on the domestic economy."
