Western tourists learn to sleep soundly on motorbike saddles like Vietnamese drivers

Kayla, from the US, was most impressed by the moments of chatting and interacting with technology motorbike taxi drivers during her journey to explore Vietnam.

Kayla Cosmos, an American female tourist, is currently on a long trip in Vietnam. She shared with Lao Dong about her journey to explore the S-shaped land with many memorable stories.

Kayla has been to Vietnam four times, with the most recent visit deciding to stay long term.

“The first time I came to Vietnam in April 2022 on a group tour, I was overwhelmed. Everything was new but my stay was short, I wanted to explore more,” she shared.

Kayla's most memorable travel experience in Vietnam came from a surprise moment in Ho Chi Minh City.

She recalled: “I celebrated the New Year with a motorbike taxi driver. After attending a countdown party at a nightclub, I took a motorbike taxi to go home. On the way, the New Year fireworks were going off.

The driver and I watched the fireworks and welcomed the New Year together in his car, exchanging New Year wishes. That moment was so beautiful and sweet.”

After more than a month in Vietnam, Kayla confessed that she learned a lot of things, including the “skill” of sleeping on motorbikes from Vietnamese motorbike taxi drivers.

In the following trips, in addition to Hanoi, Kayla traveled through many famous cities in Vietnam from North to South such as Hue, Da Nang, Da Lat, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City.

Of all the cities she has visited, Kayla ranks Dalat as her favorite: “I love the pine forest scenery and the feeling of going downhill in Dalat. Driving on the roads in the pine forest of Dalat is really great.”

She remembers most the moment of driving on the roads in the pine forests of Da Lat.

“I stopped the car and took in the surrounding scenery, and I suddenly realized how beautiful Da Lat was. The air was fresh, the birds were chirping, and the rustling of leaves was pleasant to the ears. I loved that feeling, I could stay there for hours,” said the American female tourist.

Kayla ranked Ho Chi Minh City in second place: “I can’t express how much I love Ho Chi Minh City. It’s crazy, the pace of life is always fast and the people are so open.”

In third place is Da Nang city. Kayla commented that this is a wonderful city. Among them, she was impressed by the beautiful beaches of this city: “I went to the beach every day”.

In addition, Da Nang cuisine is very rich and easy to eat. She can eat all the dishes in Da Nang, unlike in some countries she has traveled to, there are some dishes she cannot eat.

Besides the advantages, Kayla also encountered some difficulties in traveling because she said that the public transportation system in Vietnam is not really developed, so moving from one point to another is quite inconvenient.

“There is no subway in Vietnam and it is quite difficult to catch a taxi or bus. I had to ask locals to help me book a ride-hailing service,” she said.

Still, Kayla loves Vietnam: “Overall, Vietnam is a bit crazy, chaotic, in a good way. I like things to happen unexpectedly, you can’t predict what might come your way next, it’s fun and exciting.”
