Promoting Vietnam - Australia medical cooperation through people-to-people channels

On June 23, in Hanoi, President of the Vietnam - Australia Friendship Association Tran Van Nhung received Professor Jane Fisher (Monash University, Australia) to discuss potential cooperation in the medical field.

Speaking at the reception, Chairman of the Vietnam - Australia Friendship Association (Association) Tran Van Nhung highly appreciated Professor Jane Fisher's contributions to research programs and capacity development in the field of maternal and child health in Vietnam.

Mr. Tran Van Nhung also proposed to strengthen the connection between the Association and the network of Vietnamese alumni who studied in Australia to promote the expert resources. This is considered a force that can contribute positively to the training of medical human resources, especially in the field of family medicine - a field in which Australia has many strengths.

Also at the meeting, Vice President of the Association Nguyen Ngoc Hung hoped that Professor Jane Fisher and her colleagues in Australia would continue to accompany and support Vietnam in training medical human resources, applied research and knowledge transfer.

In response, Professor Jane Fisher affirmed her readiness to promote and strengthen cooperation activities with the Vietnam - Australia Friendship Association. She said that many Vietnamese medical students studying at Monash University wish to contribute to the development of the Vietnamese healthcare system through research and applied practice programs.

Professor Jane Fisher also added that her research group is developing digital applications to support parents in caring for andeducating young children. She expressed her desire to coordinate with Vietnamese partners to widely deploy these initiatives.

Here, the two sides agreed that digital transformation in healthcare, especially at the grassroots level, is a potential direction for cooperation.

Professor Jane Fisher is an expert in the field of global health, currently Head of the Department of Social Sciences in Public Health and Preventive Medicine at Monash University (Australia). She is also a clinical psychologist and technical advisor to many international organizations in the field of maternal and child health. She has collaborated with colleagues in Vietnam to conduct research on maternal and child health since the 1990s.
