Opening of the program "Moving forward with Vietnam", 1 billion steps into a new era

At 6:00 a.m. on August 16, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, and the 80th anniversary of the People's Public Security Forces' Traditional Day, at Ly Thai To Flower Garden, Hanoi, Nhan Dan Newspaper coordinated with the Ministry of Public Security to organize the launching ceremony of the national walking program "Moving Forward with Vietnam".

Attending the event were comrades: Le Quoc Minh, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Education Commission, Editor-in-Chief of Nhan Dan Newspaper, President of the Vietnam Journalists Association, Co-Head of the Steering Committee; Senior Lieutenant General Tran Quoc To, member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the Central Public Security Party Committee, Deputy Minister of Public Security , Co-Head of the Steering Committee; Le Hai Binh, alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Permanent Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Major General Pham Kim Dinh, Director of the Department of Political Work, Ministry of Public Security, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee.

Also attending the launching ceremony were representatives of leaders of units, departments, ministries, branches, agencies, central units and Hanoi City, and international friends. Notably, the program attracted the participation of more than 1 million people and armed forces in 34 provinces, cities and 3,121/3,321 communes, wards and administrative zones nationwide.

Leaders, delegates and people solemnly performed the flag salute ceremony.

“Moving Forward with Vietnam” is an unprecedented community event of profound political and social significance, taking place in the context of the country entering a new stage of development along with the rearrangement of administrative units.

With the message “1 billion steps into the new era”, the program is not only a sports activity responding to the campaign “All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho” and the movement “Healthy to build and protect the Fatherland”, but also a journey connecting millions of hearts, converging all generations and classes of people from urban to rural, mountainous, remote and isolated areas, together towards the goal of building a united, strong and sustainable Vietnam.

From July 25 to August 16, 2025, people across the country actively participated in registering online through the official portal cungvietnamtienbuoc.nhandan.vn to contribute to the journey of "1 billion steps". Each step recorded through the program's digital platform is a "green step", contributing to reducing carbon emissions, raising awareness of environmental protection and moving towards the country's Net Zero goal.

At the launching ceremony on the morning of August 16, hundreds of thousands of participants nationwide wore red shirts with yellow stars, headed to the historic Ba Dinh Square to watch the national flag raising ceremony, sang the national anthem and walked through the localities. The event not only demonstrated patriotism and solidarity but also affirmed the role of the Public Security Forces in linking the work of ensuring security and order with sustainable social development, building a movement for the entire people to protect national security.

Delegates, along with all comrades and compatriots, moved to the starting line to carry out the national walking activity "Moving forward with Vietnam".

At the launching ceremony, Deputy Minister of Public Security Tran Quoc To affirmed: "Moving Forward with Vietnam" is not only a simple community physical activity, but also a collective action rich in political and social significance, expressing the determination of the entire nation to overcome difficulties together, maintain health, strengthen solidarity, and aim for sustainable development and strong integration in the new era.

Deputy Minister Tran Quoc To affirmed that as the core force in ensuring security and order, the People's Public Security Forces are always the pioneers in responding to the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" and the movement "Healthy to build and protect the Fatherland", organizing activities to encourage people to develop the habit of walking to improve health and protect the environment, thereby spreading positive spirit, promoting responsibility, and inspiring creativity to each locality, ward, commune, and special zone, so that each step today is a solid step on the path of building and protecting the Fatherland.

“With the participation of millions of people, cadres and soldiers from the commune to the provincial level in the spirit of “one hour - one billion steps - for a healthy, united and progressive Vietnam”, we will clearly affirm a renewed and united Vietnam, ready to enter a new era of development with new stature and spirit”, the Deputy Minister emphasized.

At the same time, Deputy Minister Tran Quoc To once again affirmed: “The event “Moving Forward with Vietnam” is a practical start in the journey to promote the construction of a healthy living environment, improve physical and mental health, build a disciplined society, respect the law, security, safety, build a strong movement of the entire people to protect the security of the Fatherland; symbolizing the strength of national solidarity, the close relationship between the People's Public Security and the people”.

As of 7:30 a.m. the same day, the Organizing Committee recorded preliminary data on walking participation in the capital Hanoi and 33 provinces and cities, 3,121 communes, wards and special zones, achieving the following results: Number of provinces and cities organizing: 34/34. Number of communes, wards and special zones organizing: 3,121/3,321. Communes, wards and special zones walking combined with thematic propaganda according to the plan: 1,459/3,321. Total number of participants at the connecting points: 1,112,336 people. Total number of people registering to participate online: 138,248 people, with the accumulated number of steps of 261,404,515 steps.
