On August 5th, the opening ceremony of the international conference on the theme "Searching for the Axion Particle" took place at the International Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE - Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province). The conference will last for five days, with the participation of more than 50 experts, scientists, and researchers from 19 countries and territories.

This is a groundbreaking and innovative event in the development of high-energy physics and cosmology, co-organized by the Vietnam Science Meeting Association in collaboration with the Hubert Curien Institute for Multidisciplinary Research (IPHC, France), the STRONG2020 Project (Europe), and the Axion Research Center for High-Precision Measurement Physics of the Institute of Basic Sciences (IBS-CAPP).

At the event, Professor Tran Thanh Van, President of the Vietnam Meeting of Scientists Association, shared that the axion particle is one of the leading mysteries in physics today. The axion particle was first mentioned as a type of fundamental particle in 1997 by physicist Peccei-Quinn. Particle physicists hope that if this particle is found and identified, it could potentially lead to clues about dark matter in the universe, which scientists have been searching for and trying to prove for nearly 100 years.

Through the conference, scientists will present over 50 research papers related to topics such as: CP symmetry in strong interactions and axion models; cosmology with axions; searching for axions from galaxies using haloscopes and other antennas; searching for axions from the sun using telescopes and underground detectors; searching for axion-like particles using particle accelerators; searching for axion-like particles at low energies, the fifth force, and the phenomenon of light passing through walls… In addition, speakers will also present and discuss the latest research and experimental results. The results from the conference will guide researchers towards the right and closest path to mobilizing the global particle physics community to hunt for the axion particle.

"In particular, the conference pays attention to new research and young researchers, the next generation. They are given priority to present and exchange their findings and have the opportunity to find connections and collaborate with leading professors and scientists to shape their research path," Professor Tran Thanh Van further shared.

On the morning of August 5th, in Dong Hoi City (Quang Binh province), the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City organized the 5th International Conference on Advanced Magnetic Materials and Applications (ISAMMA 2024). The conference attracted 315 leading scientists, businesspeople, and academics from Asia and around the world, representing 20 countries and territories. Among them were 180 scientists from Japan, South Korea, Russia, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, India, Singapore, Thailand, Spain, Sweden, and the Philippines.

With a theme focused on innovation and business connectivity, particularly driven by the desire to create social value from innovative inspiration, the conference saw scientists exchange new research on advanced magnetic materials, spin electronics, emerging magnetic materials, semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence for energy regeneration, and the application of biomagnetic nanomaterials in human healthcare. According to Professor Nguyen Huu Duc, President of the Vietnam Magnetic Physics Association, ISAMMA 2024 is not only valuable for its cutting-edge scientific achievements but also promotes the spirit of integration and equal cooperation between Vietnamese science and the scientific community in the continent and the world. This is an opportunity to accelerate research and application of magnetic materials for Vietnamese industry.

On August 5th, the 2024 International Summer School of Physics and Mathematics opened at Hue University of Education. Organized by the Vietnam Institute for Advanced Studies in Mathematics (VIASM) and Hue University of Education, the summer school runs from August 5th to 10th.

This year's summer school includes four short courses, one public lecture, and several presentations and scientific discussions. The summer school attracted 70 participants from 15 countries, including 30 from overseas. It connects young researchers and students passionate about Physics and Mathematics, contributing to the development of these fields in Vietnam and Asia. Dr. Le Ho Son, Rector of Hue University of Education, stated that the International Summer School of Physics and Mathematics was initiated by Professor Phan Thanh Nam at LMU Munich, Germany, and is co-organized annually by VIASM and its partners, within the framework of the National Key Program for the Development of Mathematics 2021-2030.
