Foreign oil tanker sinks fishing boat: Body of fishing boat owner found

On the evening of October 6, a leader of the People's Committee of De Gi commune (Gia Lai province) informed the press that the body of Mr. Ng.Tr.U. (born in 1976, residing in De Gi commune), owner and captain of fishing boat BD 83019 TS that was sunk by a foreign ship in the waters of Khanh Hoa, was found at noon of the same day.

According to local authorities, the body of the ship owner Ng.Tr.U. was found at a depth of about 60m at sea. Tonight (October 6), Mr. U.'s body will be brought back to his family for funeral arrangements. "The commune has sent officials to support, visit and encourage the victim's family," said the leader of the People's Committee of De Gi commune.

For the 10 rescued crew members, relatives went to Khanh Hoa province to pick them up and take them back to their hometown.

As reported by SGGP Newspaper, at around 10:30 p.m. on October 4, while operating about 17 nautical miles southeast of Ca Na estuary ( Ninh Thuan ), fishing boat BD 83019 TS (11 crew members) was hit by a Korean oil tanker (South-North route).

After the strong collision, the fishing boat sent out a distress signal and ship BV 95869 TS promptly approached, rescuing 10 crew members, but captain U. was missing, the ship sank completely.

Notably, according to the fishermen, after causing the accident, the Korean oil tanker continued its journey without stopping to rescue.

Regarding the incident, the Border Guard Command has proposed that the Provincial People's Committee notify and discuss with the Maritime Administration (Ministry of Transport) to direct the Maritime Port Authorities of the provinces to coordinate in gathering information related to the Korean oil tanker for handling.
