Lao Cai: Bac Ha commune launches planting of yellow passion fruit, opening up sustainable economic development for people in the highlands

Recently, the Bac Ha Regional Agricultural Service Center coordinated with the People's Committee of Bac Ha commune, Lao Cai province to organize a launching ceremony for planting yellow passion fruit trees, within the framework of the "Project for Developing Yellow Passion Fruit Production in Bac Ha Commune" under Project 2, the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction by 2025.

This is one of the important activities to promote the development of agricultural production, increase income and create sustainable livelihoods for local people.

Attending the launching ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Tai Nghe, Vice Chairman of Bac Ha Commune People's Committee, and the Bac Ha Commune Golden Passion Fruit Production Community Group. The launching ceremony took place at the production garden of Mr. Hau Seo Plau, Ban Ngo Thuong village, where households will directly participate in planting and caring for golden passion fruit trees.

At the ceremony, representatives of Highlands Gia Lai Company Limited, the supplier of yellow passion fruit seedlings to households participating in the project, directly instructed on planting techniques, care, trellis making, fertilization, pest control and harvesting. At the same time, the company also committed to purchasing products, ensuring stable output for people, creating favorable conditions for people to feel secure in production and sustainable economic development.

In 2025, Bac Ha commune will implement a project to plant 39.12 hectares of yellow passion fruit, with the participation of 27 households, organized into community groups with the same interests and desire to develop yellow passion fruit production. This is a pilot model to be replicated in the following years, contributing to creating stable livelihoods for households in the highlands, increasing income, and sustainably reducing poverty.

Directly instruct households on techniques for planting and caring for yellow lemons in the fields

To ensure the effectiveness of the project, households commit to strictly complying with technical procedures throughout the planting, care and harvesting process. In addition, departments, branches and organizations of Bac Ha commune will strengthen propaganda, mobilization and support people in the production process, and regularly inspect, monitor and promptly remove difficulties. Associated businesses and specialized agencies will continue to accompany, provide seeds, materials, techniques and ensure product consumption, helping the project develop sustainably.

The project was approved by the People's Committee of Bac Ha commune in Decision No. 329, dated October 31, 2025, with the goal of expanding the golden passion fruit growing model, creating a new direction in the development of commodity agriculture, increasing income for people in the highlands, and at the same time contributing to the implementation of poverty reduction criteria and local socio-economic development.

The implementation of the golden passion fruit growing model not only helps Bac Ha people have more opportunities to improve their lives, but also creates a premise for expanding agricultural commodity production, forming sustainable agricultural value chains, contributing to improving production and business capacity for households in the region. This is a clear demonstration of the effective coordination between local authorities, businesses and people in building a sustainable agricultural model, aiming at socio-economic development in the highlands, contributing to the successful implementation of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction.
