With its crystal-clear waters, rolling hills, and fresh air, this place is gradually becoming an attractive destination for nature lovers and explorers .
A peaceful natural landscape
Previously, the area around Ham Thuan Lake was inhabited by the K'ho ethnic minority. They lived in the valley, along the riverbanks. When the government decided to dam the river for hydroelectric power, the people there moved to new settlements in the commune.
The upstream of Ham Thuan Lake originates from the La Nga River. The lake covers approximately 2,500 hectares, with eight small islands scattered across its surface. The lake plays a crucial role in regulating the climate and providing water for production and irrigation in the surrounding area. Therefore, it is often referred to as a miniature "Ha Long Bay".
Ham Thuan Lake was formed after the construction of the Ham Thuan-Da Mi hydroelectric power plant, completed in the late 1990s. Spanning thousands of hectares, the lake is surrounded by mountains and lush green pine forests. In the early mornings, the lake's surface is covered in a mystical mist, reflecting the soft golden sunlight, creating a poetic scene that compels anyone to stop and admire it.
Viewed from above, the lake resembles a ribbon of green silk winding around low hills, interspersed with small islands rising above the water's surface. In the distance stretch endless primeval forests, where the sound of birdsong blends with the gentle rustling of the wind through the leaves.
A meeting place for travel and exploration enthusiasts.
Not only is it captivating with its scenic beauty, but it also offers visitors a series of memorable experiences. You can kayak on the calm water, feeling the cool water under the gentle sunlight of the plateau. Especially for photography enthusiasts, Ham Thuan Lake is a paradise with countless stunning photo opportunities, particularly at sunrise or sunset, when the golden light bathes the lake's surface.
Your exploration journey will be even more enjoyable if you choose to camp overnight by the lake, sipping Lam Dong coffee amidst the mist and feeling the peaceful rhythm of the mountains and forests at night. For a more immersive experience with local culture, homestays and farmstays around the area also serve specialties such as grilled chicken with bamboo rice, grilled stream fish, or wild vegetables with sesame salt dip – all bearing the distinctive flavors of the Central Highlands.
