Located next to the Con Son – Kiet Bac National Special Historical Site, the Con Son Botanical Garden covers 30 hectares and features approximately 450 species of native and introduced plants.
With its rich vegetation, Con Son Botanical Garden is home to 30 species of trees listed in the Red Book of endangered species.
In 1997, Con Son Botanical Garden was still just barren hills... (archival photo) ...to this day it has become a lush, verdant forest. The Con Son Forest Management Station ( Hai Duong Provincial Forest Management Board) directly manages the forest, and nine local households are contracted to protect and care for it. Since 1996, Mr. Nguyen Van Ngan (born in 1972) from Tien Son area, Cong Hoa ward (Chi Linh) has been responsible for planting, caring for, and protecting 7 hectares in the central area of Con Son Botanical Garden. Periodically, he goes into the forest to cut down wild trees so that the planted trees can thrive. The ironwood tree in the garden is so large that it would take two people to encircle it, and it's about 35 meters tall. The black star tree, listed in the Red Book, originates from the forests of Southern Vietnam, grows to about 25m tall, has lush branches and leaves, and thrives in the forest soil of Chi Linh. Camphor tree, a valuable medicinal plant with a distinctive aromatic essential oil. Staff at the Con Son Forest Management Station manage the plant system in the park through digital maps, records, and group Zalo accounts.
