On June 17, at Phu Bai International Airport (Thua Thien - Hue ), Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) inaugurated terminal T2.
Attending the inauguration ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Xuan Thang, Politburo member, Director of Ho Chi Minh City National Academy of Politics, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang, along with the Central delegation; local leaders and provinces and cities in the region.

According to Vietnam Airports Corporation, with its important position, Thua Thien Hue is increasingly attracting domestic and foreign visitors to invest in business and tourism. In particular, air transport is one of the important factors in the strategy to turn Thua Thien - Hue into an international economic , tourism and trade center.
Terminal T2 is designed with inspiration from the Ngu Mountain complex and the mountains surrounding the ancient capital, the majestic nature of the Huong River and the architectural complex, the diversity of the Hue royal dynasty culture. The station's roof is designed to overlap and stretch far away, expressing the desire to rise and move towards the future.
Previously, the T1 passenger terminal of Phu Bai International Airport had a capacity of serving 1.5 million passengers/year. However, by 2016, the number of passengers passing through the airport exceeded the capacity, so the project to build the T2 passenger terminal was started on December 29, 2019.
Terminal T2 was built with a design concept based on a thorough study of the geographical and cultural context of Thua Thien - Hue.

Terminal T2 is also a project to celebrate the 5th anniversary of the establishment of the State Capital Management Committee at Enterprises.
The terminal is connected to the aircraft parking area by 4 telescopic bridges, including 3 code C bridges and 1 double telescopic bridge, which can handle 1 code E aircraft or 2 code C aircraft at the same time.
The functional space is designed with 2 passenger circulation levels. The domestic and international arrivals area is located on the 1st floor and the departures area is located on the 2nd floor.
The terminal is organized into check-in and waiting areas, which helps increase the operational efficiency and capacity of the terminal, creating a simple and coherent traffic flow from the check-in hall to the boarding area as well as vice versa from the aircraft to the baggage claim hall.
Passenger terminal T2 has 44 check-in counters; 4 online check-in points; 8 boarding gates; 4 arrival baggage conveyors; 4 baggage bridges; 10 security screening machines; 10 immigration counters...
In particular, Passenger Terminal T2 is the first terminal of Vietnam Airports Corporation to apply digital transformation, upgrade digital infrastructure, and digital platform to standardize business processes.
Here, there is a support system to help passengers self-check in (Self Check-in Kiosk); a system to help passengers self-check in their baggage (Self Baggage Drop); an automatic broadcasting system using AI to broadcast to search by passenger name; a system to apply electronic chip-embedded CCCD cards, Biometric facial recognition (facial ID) along with a system of equipment to control automatic security procedures; an automatic boarding control system (E-gate)... bringing many conveniences to passengers.
Functional areas serving cars, taxis, buses, and convoys are arranged in front of the station with a scale suitable to the design capacity and future development plans.
Traffic flows into the parking lot are planned to ensure minimal overlap with traffic flows in front of the station.
With a modern design and large capacity, Terminal T2 is expected to meet the needs of society; be a safe destination, a gateway, a bridge between domestic and international regions; deserve an important position and role in promoting economic, social, defense and security development of Thua Thien - Hue province and the North Central region.
