Survey shows that Vietnamese people eat home-cooked meals less and less.
The Vietnam Food and Beverage Business Report released by iPOS (a company providing restaurant and cafe management solutions) at the end of March shows that Vietnamese people are tending to eat out more often, with more than 17% eating out every day, nearly 30% eating out 3-4 times a week, much higher than in 2022. Economic difficulties do not affect this habit. 2023 will see Vietnamese people spend more on lunch and dinner out.
Grab 's December 2023 report shows that more and more Vietnamese users like to use this app to explore and experience new restaurants and stores, with more than 50% accessing the app when they don't know where to eat.
Previously, a survey by Q&me also showed that urban people, especially those with high incomes, eat out more, with 36% saying they have reduced the frequency of cooking at home since the pandemic.
Ministry of Transport explains the reason for the high airfares
At the socio-economic discussion session of the National Assembly Standing Committee on the morning of May 13, Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Tran Quang Phuong pointed out the reality that people from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi have to buy tickets to Thailand, then fly from Thailand to Hanoi. This situation has been going on for many months now, due to the excessive increase in domestic airfares.
Explaining, Deputy Minister of Transport Nguyen Danh Huy said that compared to some routes of other countries, Vietnam Airlines' tickets in the recent period averaged 0.08-0.12 USD per km. This level is lower than some routes of other countries, such as in Thailand, the Phuket route is 0.1-0.29 USD; the Shanghai to Guangzhou (China) route is 0.27-0.3 USD per km.
On average, Vietnam Airlines ticket prices have increased by 14-20% on all routes. The reason for the price increase, according to Deputy Minister Huy, is fuel prices and exchange rate differences. Currently, these costs account for 65-70% of the ticket price structure. Since the beginning of the year, the USD/VND exchange rate has increased sharply, by nearly 5%.
In March, Vietnam Airlines' leaders said that foreign currency costs are high, and they lose hundreds of billions when the exchange rate fluctuates. Accordingly, with a 1% change in the exchange rate, the airline loses 300 billion VND. If the exchange rate fluctuates 5%, the airline's annual costs increase to 1,500 billion VND.
Regarding the fact that airfares in Thailand are cheap, the Deputy Minister explained that this country has recently implemented a policy to stimulate tourism, reducing almost all airfares. In general, airfares around the world continue to increase.
The representative of the Ministry of Transport also mentioned some other reasons for the high airfares. That is, airlines lack aircraft because they have to put a certain number of aircraft into maintenance due to engine failures on Airbus aircraft. Therefore, they have to wet lease (aircraft, fleet), causing costs to increase.
Another reason, according to Mr. Huy, is that people buy tickets close to flight time.
In the first quarter, Vietnamese airlines transported 13 million passengers, down 5% compared to the same period in 2023. Of which, the number of domestic passengers decreased by 18%, down to 8.5 million.
Khanh Hoa proposes to resume collecting entrance fees to Nha Trang Bay
Previously, from 2004 to 2009, Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Council issued two resolutions on collecting fees for visiting Nha Trang Bay scenic spots.
However, when implementing that fee collection, some businesses disagreed, so the Provincial People's Council had a resolution to replace it.
Since 2010, the entrance fee at Nha Trang Bay has only been applied to visitors to Hon Mun Marine Reserve .
However, after the incident of mass coral death and serious decline in Nha Trang Bay, in November 2022, the Provincial People's Committee issued a master plan to restore Nha Trang Bay until 2030. In which, there is a solution to "create sustainable financial resources for Nha Trang Bay management activities".
According to the above plan, Nha Trang City People's Committee proposed that the province consider issuing regulations to re-collect entrance fees at all national scenic spots in Nha Trang Bay.
According to the draft proposal, Vietnamese and foreign tourists will pay the same entrance fee to Nha Trang Bay, which is 30,000 VND/trip. There are also some cases where the fee is reduced or exempted according to regulations.
