Changing the mindset of mountain workers
In La Dee commune (Nam Giang), the number of workers registering to work abroad has been increasing over the past 3 years. Many workers returning to their hometowns have not only escaped poverty but also had a better life, with capital to invest in business and trade.
Mr. To Ngol Nhu (Cong To Ron village, La Dee commune) went to Laos to work in THACO AGRI farms, mainly taking care of and harvesting banana trees. He said: “I went to Laos to work as a banana garden worker, earning from 13 to 15 million VND per month, saving and sending it back to my family. Over here, businesses created conditions for me to have a stable place to eat and live, so I feel very secure.”
Mr. Brao Tuan - Vice Chairman of La De Commune People's Committee said that the locality has 460 households, in the past 2 years, 30 workers have gone to work abroad, mainly in Laos and Japan. Many families have escaped poverty when workers have income to send back home, at the same time promoting the local socio-economic development .
Mr. Brao Tuan shared: “In the commune, there are many young people working in Laos and there have been significant changes. Through research, the workers have sent home to their families at least 7 million VND/month to cover living expenses and repair houses.
Over the past time, the local government has always created favorable conditions and supported livelihoods, seedlings, and livestock to help households have stable incomes. This is one of the policies that the commune has always paid attention to, creating the best conditions for these households to have conditions to escape poverty sustainably.
According to the People's Committee of Nam Giang district, the whole district has more than 200 laborers working abroad. Many laborers returning to their hometowns have made positive contributions to the construction and economic development of the locality.
With the money sent back by relatives working abroad, many families have built houses, opened shops and services to maintain their income. Since then, people's lives have improved, and the poverty rate has decreased year by year.
Seasonal labor highlights
Nam Tra My is a mountainous district that has achieved the best results in recent times in promoting sending seasonal workers to Hamyang district (Gyeongsongnam province, Korea).

Up to now, Nam Tra My has sent more than 200 workers to Hamyang for seasonal work. Many of them have returned for the second or third time when employers in farms and ranches in Hamyang trusted and sponsored them to continue working.
In this latest batch, the flight on June 2nd brought 3 more workers, Ho Thi Diep (Tra Cang commune), Nguyen Thi Doi (Tra Don commune) to Hamyang to work on a strawberry farm; and Ho Thi Duyen (Tra Mai commune) to work in a chili garden and as a restaurant assistant. Thus, from the beginning of 2025 until now, Nam Tra My has had 69 workers go to Hamyang to work.
The cooperative relationship between Hamyang district and Nam Tra My district is not only about visits, exchanging experiences in cultivating, processing, and promoting Ngoc Linh ginseng and Korean ginseng products, but also becoming more practical since Hamyang supported Nam Tra My workers to come work, creating a good source of income to stabilize their lives.
Mr. Jeong Dong Jin (in charge of rural resettlement in Hamyang district) when going to Nam Tra My to recruit workers in early 2025 assessed that Nam Tra My workers when working in Hamyang always make efforts and are responsible, strictly complying with the regulations of Korean law.
In 2025, Hamyang district will recruit about 200 workers from Nam Tra My to work and there may be more. This is a good sign, opening a good start for workers in Nam Tra My district.
