Mekong Delta International Marathon is known as the first Marathon held in the Mekong Delta region and took place for the first time in Hau Giang province.
This year, entering its sixth season, the tournament returns with the theme “Shine Together” with a race course certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
The 6th International Marathon " Vietcombank Mekong Delta" in Hau Giang province is part of the series of races in the Vietnam Nexus Marathon Series (VNMS) system, operated and professionally guaranteed by Nexus Sport Events, promising to bring safe and standard experiences to participating athletes.
With the close direction of Hau Giang Provincial People's Committee, the support and close coordination from Hau Giang Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and relevant departments and branches of the province, the "Vietcombank Mekong Delta" International Marathon in Hau Giang province has once again returned with many innovations and improvements compared to the previous season and is aiming for new personal records to be set.
The tournament is organized to continue to encourage sports training, improve community health, and respond to the Campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" for the period 2021 - 2030.
At the same time, through the tournament, Hau Giang province hopes to introduce its culture, people and natural landscapes to domestic and foreign tourists, contributing to the development of local tourism. In particular, the tournament also promotes and raises people's awareness of climate change in the Mekong Delta.
This year’s tournament is expected to attract a large number of athletes, about 10,000 participants, including 2,000 children. The tournament is open to all Vietnamese citizens and foreigners who are healthy and not banned from competing.
At the tournament, athletes compete in distances designed to suit many ages and levels: 1.2km for primary school students (9-11 years old); 2.4km for secondary school students (12-15 years old); 5km for athletes 6 years old and up; 10km for athletes 10 years old and up; 21km Half Marathon for athletes 16 years old and up; 42km Marathon for athletes 18 years old and up.
Total prize value for individual and team categories is over 400 million VND.
In addition, the Organizing Committee also awarded a new record-setting prize of 42km worth 50,000,000 VND to 1 male and 1 female. Athletes who complete the distance within the specified time will receive a commemorative medal from the Organizing Committee.
In addition to the professional aspect, this year’s tournament continues the message of fighting climate change in the Mekong Delta, with tree planting activities to enhance the “Green Marathon Hau Giang Route” and cleaning up some hot spots of environmental pollution in Vi Thanh City. The tree planting ceremony is scheduled to take place at 7am on July 5.
Along with that is a series of rich activities such as: Trade Fair and OCOP products of Hau Giang in 2025; exhibition area introducing socio-economic achievements of Hau Giang province; culinary area, displaying artifacts, typical images of culture, sports and tourism; book exhibition; writing calligraphy; organizing tourism programs to visit Hau Giang province; folk cake contest of Hau Giang province in 2025.
The 6th International Marathon "Mekong Delta Marathon" in Hau Giang province in 2025 promises to be a major sporting event, contributing to promoting the image of Hau Giang to domestic and international friends, while raising community awareness about health training and environmental protection.
