At the graduation ceremony for students of Hanoi Law University held on June 25, the image of a female student with cerebral palsy being personally led by the principal to the stage to receive her diploma moved many people.

Nguyen Mai Anh, a student of K44 Law, was once known to many people in the program “The 7th Wish”. Despite having cerebral palsy, the female student still tried to overcome a long and arduous journey and the doubts and discrimination of everyone to become a student of Law.

Seeing her daughter confidently and steadily walk on stage to receive her diploma and certificate of merit for her efforts and outstanding efforts to complete the study program, Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Hao ( Phu Tho ) was moved to tears.

“Even though I may not be 'perfect' and my fate may not be lucky, I have overcome, completed excellently and can be happy with what I have done.”

Mai Anh stood on stage to receive a certificate of merit from the principal.

Ms. Hao said that at first, Mai Anh did not intend to attend the ceremony because it was quite difficult to travel. However, when the school announced that the principal would present a certificate of merit to her, the whole family decided to accompany Mai Anh to the ceremony.

The moment her child went up to receive his diploma, she was even more moved when she saw the principal warmly welcome her child in, then leave the stage with her.

“I always thought the principal was distant, but when I saw that image, I couldn’t hold back my tears. That image was like a father guiding his child’s uncertain steps, full of responsibility and love,” said Ms. Hao.

The principal took Mai Anh's hand to receive her graduation certificate, causing emotion.

Mai Anh is the eldest daughter of Ms. Hao and her husband. In addition, she also has a twin sister named Truc Anh, who is studying at Hanoi University of Pharmacy.

The two children were born completely healthy. However, after 13 months, her family discovered that Mai Anh had spastic cerebral palsy.

“I was sad but never thought of giving up. When you looked at my child with prejudiced eyes, I felt so sorry for him,” she said.

Mai Anh and her family on graduation day

Over the past 15 years, Ms. Hao has always been by Mai Anh's side, encouraging her and taking her to physical therapy.

“Cognitively, my child has no problem. Once, he told me: “I have to pass the entrance exam to a specialized school because a teacher told me: ‘Mai Anh is also taking the entrance exam to a specialized school?’”.

The mother understood that her child felt sad when someone did not believe in her. But then, miraculously, Mai Anh fulfilled her wish and passed the entrance exam to Hanoi Law University .

Mai Anh's story has become a motivation for many unfortunate families who have children with cerebral palsy.

Mr. Nguyen Son Tung - Deputy Head of Student Affairs Department, Hanoi Law University, said that Mai Anh is a student who was considered for early graduation in April. She is also a special case when she received a certificate of merit from the principal for her efforts and hard work.

“This is the school’s spiritual encouragement to encourage Mai Anh and also to inspire many other unfortunate students to continue trying to complete their studies. The school also hopes that Mai Anh will be confident and understand that she has her family, school and friends always accompanying and following her efforts on the journey ahead,” said Mr. Tung.
